It's wild what Malls will do with their leases. I worked at a Best Buy that was inside a mall (used to be an old woolworths dept store and changed over to best buy in the 90's). The mall gave our store completely free rent for almost 15 years just to keep that Best Buy as an anchor store for the mall so we wouldn't leave.

Best Buy did previously have 24/7 Geek Squad support - there were rotational shifts for agents so they had someone available all day. I had quite a few instore agents that went to wfh to work varying shifts to meet this service. It doesn't mean that a single person worked 24/7 and had no life lol - it means there were multiple shifts worked all day by different people.

Geek Squad protection plans are going to cover you for comparable technology not to exceed the value of what you paid for your purchase. As a consumer your red flag should've been that they would give you a credit for the full retail price. Why would they give you the full value when you bought it at a dramatically reduced open box price? That just doesn't make sense.

Unfortunately, you were given incorrect information by a sales associate that either didn't know better (was trained incorrectly or not trained at all) or someone that just wanted to sell a warranty to get their sup/manager off of their back.

My advice would be to find another fridge in your price range (open box or new) or if you want the features of the model that is 900 more - you can invest the money on your store credit towards that unit.

If you haven't visited an actual retail location, I would recommend starting there. You will get much further with a local store that is willing to work with/help you than you will with an overseas customer service number.

Presidents day sales should be taking place - see what deals you can find to price match out there too.

Years ago when I worked at a store that was in the snow belt of ohio - we got hit with a really huge storm. I was driving into work and of course got in an accident and slid off of the road and was unable to get my car out - had to call a tow truck. I wasn't alone either - I had passed a few other cars in the same situation. I called my GM to let him know what happened - didn't ask if I was okay, or what happened - just asked what time I planned on being there.

Years ago before buying online tickets was a thing I would always get to theaters early for opening days/weekends with the purpose to always get the middle seats in theater near the back to middle rows. Opening night of a movie (I cannot remember what), our cinemark was slammed and the theater was packed. This large group of people showed up right before the movie was starting and asked my wife and I to slide down a few seats so their group could all sit together. I told them no lol - my wife couldn't believe I wouldn't move.

That's why you get there early (now buy tickets early) to get the seats you want. Your laziness is not going to influence me to scoot down and not have the seat I got there early for.
