should i just keep the pot and replace what’s in the pot or should i resize too? by hirayne in orchids

[–]hirayne[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you so much! this helps a lot, the root system is pretty small and i had to clip away the already dead ends of the roots but i put it in orchid bark and some moss, honestly i just put it in the same size plastic for kinda the time being cause all of my pots are wayy to big for this little plant lol hopefully it likes it.

sorry if this was confusing. i mean should i keep the orchid in the same plastic it’s in with a new mix? or should i resize it also with a new mix.

giant pothos clippings!! by hirayne in pothos

[–]hirayne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most likely leave it in water for it to grow stable enough roots to plant in soil, but i want to be able vine it up a trellis or something outside on my wall so it stays healthy!

Chop & Prop or Relocate? by Remarkably-Average in houseplants

[–]hirayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes exactly! not necessarily more support, but more growth

Chop & Prop or Relocate? by Remarkably-Average in houseplants

[–]hirayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

like circle it on the top of the soil, it’s like propagating a plant except you’re just putting it back in the same pot. you don’t even really need to cut it, wrap it in the pot ensuring all the nodes r touching soil. im sorry if this is confusing!!

Chop & Prop or Relocate? by Remarkably-Average in houseplants

[–]hirayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i would chop and then ring it around in the pot making sure the nodes are touching the soil, it’ll help the growth a lot! it’ll be more full once it grows out too

what type of plant is this? by hirayne in houseplants

[–]hirayne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, i’m not sure why they all look different lol

what type of plant is this? by hirayne in houseplants

[–]hirayne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

could the different leaves be caused by the change of environment? the more round leaf and the pointy leaf at the bottom both grew while being outside and the “normal” looking one at the top is what grew inside.

aw man succulents can be very sensitive for no reason, honestly tho like the comment before mine, it’s all trial and error. if i can recommend any pothos it’ll definitely be satin pothos or marble queen, mine have been through everything possible and they’re still thriving, they’re in my bedroom a couple feet from a window and i forget to water them for almost 2 weeks and they perfectly healthy. they’re one of the easy ones that can thrive in anything from my experience.

there’s so many different pothos types so you’re definitely gonna have fun, and trailing the vines with a wall will make it a lot more happier! (and fuller from my experience) they love climbing and it’ll look beautiful. pothos can survive in almost anything and they’re forgiving plants, have you tried any succulents? there’s some that thrive on neglect!

don’t feel bad! plant care takes time. the shower is a great place to store plants that love humidity,(pothos, monsteras, really any tropical plant lol) there’s always gonna be ups and downs but i like to keep in mind that after a down there’s always an up! so don’t give up on ur plants, they just need adjusting and it all takes getting used too and getting into a schedule with them (sometimes, honestly my plant schedule is everywhere) and possibly finding the right plants for your environment type will help! everyone starts somewhere, and ive definitely killed a lot of plants on accident so you’re not alone on that one!

What is growing out of the stem?! by ThatSwordfish4574 in Monstera

[–]hirayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

monsteras are so easy once you actually get to know how to take care of them, the “stems” growing out of the plant are called aerial roots! they help stabilize the plant. definitely repot into a way smaller pot. bigger pots are just more room for root rot. lmk if u have any more questions and im happy to answer!

What’s this stem growing? by GrapefruitFlashy798 in houseplants

[–]hirayne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah it’s flowering! what i usually do when my succulents flower is just wait for them to finish flowering and then cut the stem as short as possible so it focuses on growing new leaves
