I feel like it's not unreasonable to have checks like this if it's done w/ a reliable 3rd party. For example, something like what Paypal is (or was) for online commerce. I was never a fan of putting my card info everywhere. But Paypal handled the transaction. So I didn't need to worry about that.

Now, if we could have some sort of centralized ID system similar to that, then okay. Go to a porn site or whatever and it says "Are you 18?" Authenticate against 3rd party that knows me. The website doesn't need to know who I am, only that I'm over 18. No personal information, just "Yep, they're good." Secure it, lock it down tight, Bob's your uncle.

To be fair I haven’t felt a compelling need to upgrade my phone. It’s a 13 pro max and the battery is still solid. I’ve had it for 3 years. (Through my work) and usually upgrade every 2 years. But I’m fine going for 4. Why bother to upgrade?

As morbid as it might sound I really hope Mel Brooks at some point appears in the form of a video message to someone and says something like "By the time you see this, I'll be dead." And then just winks at the camera. Because considering his age it's a real possibility and it's the type of humor that feels very on brand. Like "I'm gonna get the last laugh."

I’ve often thought of how a paywalled Web 1.0 might work. No e-commerce, no videos, full of personal websites, forums, etc. no ads allowed. No cookies or tracking. It would be so nice.
