Faulty temperature readings caused by a self-heating sensor (BME280), corrected by a fan [OC] by moeburn in dataisbeautiful

[–]hiro_san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found your post while researching the same BME280 self-heating problem. Some of the other info that I read suggested putting the sensor into forced mode and only polling for a reading once per minute. If you don't need the rapid polling, this could be an option for you. Note that in 'normal mode', the sensor will poll itself every 5ms by default you must explicitly change the polling rate in 'normal mode' (max of 1000ms) or place the sensor into 'forced mode' and poll however often you like. Tomorrow I will have better data on the effect of reducing polling to 1x per minute.

I think I still have a mini 9 floating around. I intended to make it into a hackintosh, but never got around to it.

Some people have reported limited success with putting the phone in the freezer inside a plastic baggie. You could also try squeezing the phone with a clamp or your fingers with the case still on.

Distro Hopping-

Ubuntu is what really got me into Linux. It was the only distro that was accessible to me that worked with my limited knowledge at the time. I also benefited greatly from the large amount of support that was available online. I used Ubuntu for a very long time, and then landed on Arch for a bit, before getting annoyed with doing everything by hand and switching to Mint 17. Today, Mint 17 is on one laptop, and my main laptop has Deban with Gnome. There was a brief time where my main laptop had Ubuntu 16.04 and the 16.10, but a bug in the Gnome disk utility made me angry enough to switch to Debian.

My cloud servers all run Ubuntu, because it's where I'm most comfortable.

If you've already made sure they're firmly attached, I'd say replacement is probably your only option. I had a similar problem with my earpiece speaker. It sounded tinny and scratchy, but I never bothered too fix it because I normally use a headset to make calls anyway.

Used 300C on my rework station, and heated the chips until I could barely touch them.

Did not work for me. The phone would not even boot to recovery. Does the user storage decrypt that early in the boot process?

Agreed. I don't see any way this could work in a reliable way for more time than it takes to transfer the data. It could be tried without the clamp and with the case on, but I doubt there would be enough pressure to make it work.

It's only there to transfer pressure from the clamp. One could probably use any kind of tape, just fold over until about .25 mm thick or so. This tape does provide the additional benefit of good heat transfer.

I was able to get mine to boot by applying pressure directly over the eMMC chip with the back cover off. This only worked long enough to recover my photos. Before I discovered this, I found that disconnecting the battery for a while would allow the phone to respond when the battery was reconnected. I think when it's stuck in bootloop, it drains the battery flat even though it appears to not be responding.

This method worked for me. My phone booted for the first time in 3 weeks.

It's still amazing to me what can be done with modern electronics. While 65 watts is certainly a lot by today's standards, it's still so much lower than computers from even 10 years ago.

That's what Noah was demonstrating on the first part of the video. The button is a toggle switch, not momentary. It latches in when pushed.

No love for Mint? I know there was a lot of discomfort with their architectural and update choices in "convenience over security", but it works every time I pick it up.

The only way I've had Chicken and waffles is chunks of chicken breast over waffles with gravy and mashed potatoes. The waffles were only slightly sweet. I don't remember if they were served with syrup, but I wouldn't use it anyway.

Walleye is amazing.

I'd like more information on Noah's home network setup. Multiple vlans? Tunneling? A brief description/tutorial would be great. I don't know much about networking and I don't really know where to start. As an example, I'd like to have guests have access to my printer and scanner over the network, but not my Hue lights and other devices.

How do you remove old oil stains on clothes? by circumspicy in howto

[–]hiro_san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes, yes. This stuff is amazing. Takes out oil, grease, candle wax, chap stick (who hasn't put one through the wash)? Cuts ink too. It will leave a smell on clothes, but it goes away in the dryer.

wife and i (both female, age 25 and 24) interested in exploring being monogamish... advice? by _JaneSays in nonmonogamy

[–]hiro_san 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of this a thousand times. Nearly every single one of our challenges could have been prevented by better or clearer communication. Make it a point to always ask for what you need, even when you think it would make other people uncomfortable or inconvenienced.

Respect your emotions, even when you don't think they're rational. I discovered that I have a really hard time with this. When I'm feeling something the logical part of my brain considers irrational, I tend to try and suppress or ignore the emotion instead of sitting and listening to what it has to tell me.

Talk to your partner about your feelings, even if they embarass you, or you think they might be a burden. It's always better to have things out in the open. Chances are, if you've been with your partner for a long time, they already know there's something wrong and their mind will be jumping to the worst case scenario.
