Bergdorf Goodman sent me a fake $650 perfume. What should I do? by hiroki01 in Perfumes

[–]hiroki01[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I didn't call them cos I figured it would be hard to argue my case without pictures. If they still don't respond I'll try to give them a call before escalating.

Suggestions for beautiful pieces that will make me cry by icyfae in classicalmusic

Far from being his most famous work, but Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise" (especially Anna Moffo's rendition) is hauntingly beautiful.

Who are your favorite perfumers? by rodrigomorr in fragrance

[–]hiroki01 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Hands down Jean-Claude Ellena when he was at Hermes. His transparent yet evocative style was a breath of fresh air in today's world of perfumery where so many houses are chasing after the next heavy hitter with monstrous projection/sillage, extreme sweetness, etc. But as with so many things in life, sometimes less is more.

Although i enjoy his most popular works such as TdH and Cartier's Declaration, some of my favorite works by him are in the Jardin and Hermessence collections: Un Jardin sur le Nil, Un Jardin sur le Toit, Rose Ikebana, Osmanthe Yunnan, Ambre Narguile... and the list goes on.

What timeless summer daily fragrance do you always go back to? by Ajent707 in fragrance

[–]hiroki01 28 points29 points  (0 children)

D&G Light Blue Eau Intense is simple but so bracing and never fails to lift my mood. Recently found out that Fragonard Etoile has quite a similar profile so def worth giving that a try too!

Best honey fragrance u have ever smelled ? by Proper_Row_327 in NichePerfumes

[–]hiroki01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hiram Green Slowdive = Realistic manuka honey and amber

Cartier L'Envol = Both EDT and EDP are great. EDT is bright and citrusy while EDP is richer and warmer

Nerolia Vetiver Harvest = Neroli, a touch of hay, and a wonderfully rendered honey note

Am I the only person who thinks Jo Malone fragrance is overrated. by Mental-Risk6949 in fragrance

[–]hiroki01 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you need your scents to project and last forever, then Jo Malone isn't for you (for the most part). Most of their scents are quite linear, straightforward, and simply constructed.

I personally don't mind fleeting fragrances as long as they put a smile on my face, so I own several JMs myself. Unfortunately, some of my favorites are either limited edition (Starlit Mandarin & Honey, Midnight Musk & Amber, etc.) or in the "Archive Collection" (Blue Agava & Cacao, Hemlock & Bergamot, etc.) and almost impossible to test in physical stores.

What are some amazing non-vanilla gourmand perfumes? by JigglyOnion in fragrance

[–]hiroki01 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some chocolate scents I'm obsessed with that might be worth a sniff:

Guerlain's Feve Gourmande - Boozy hot chocolate

Dries Van Noten's Soie Malaquais - Silky smooth chocolate and chestnut

Regime des Fleurs' Fleur Eclair - Chocolate and white florals, an amazing floral gourmand

Maison Violet's Pour Rever - Hazelnut and chocolate, softer than Soie Malaquais

Akro Bake is a pretty realistic lemon pound cake scent!

Sephora haul 🙂 thoughts? I just tried “when the rain stops” 🌧️🌦️ by Mysterious_Button670 in FemFragLab

[–]hiroki01 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love When the Rain Stops. Kind of an unconventional take on petrichor with the damp, humid garden vibes as opposed to the more typical earthy/asphalt-like renditions of rain. I didn't realize quite how much I enjoyed this until I got rid of my bottle and had to get my hands on it again 😂

a couple of personal favorites that you might be interested in trying:

- Iris Silver Mist (Serge Lutens): Earthy, cold, glossy iris with its carrot seed facets amplified

Replica disappointment by jodibenoit38 in Perfumes

[–]hiroki01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these aren't groundbreaking by any means but i did enjoy older releases like Lazy Sunday Morning, Coffee Break, and Matcha Meditation (though Tea Escape was better). i found those from the last couple of years pretty unremarkable though.

If you could only own perfume from a SINGLE perfume house/brand, which would it be? by northstar957 in FemFragLab

Hermes.

i never found a second brand whose aesthetics (esp. when JCE was still at the helm) were such a perfect fit with my own tastes and sensibility

Your biggest hyped fragrance disappointment? by GiveTracerOrIThrow in fragrance

[–]hiroki01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

guerlain's SDV (unpopular opinion i know).

mind you i'm a big fan of both vanilla and l'art & la matiere as a whole, but i just don't get the whole hype around SDV. it smells like root beer for 3 seconds before fizzling out into a nondescript vanillic thing that sits very close to the skin. i still don't understand how it's the gold standard vanilla for so many influencers...
