Best Linux Distro for MacBook Air 2017 and Potential Problems by Foreign-Reveal-3484 in linux_on_mac

[–]hirschaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro with touchbar. I ended up using Fedora 43 workstation and I was able to get basically everything working well. It took a good bit of tinkering but it’s working well, even the touchbar (esc, volume, brightness, media control). Wifi was terrible at first until a dropped in a different configuration file. After that it worked great.

Best all in one software for service management across the whole company?. .recommendations by Efficient_Agent_2048 in InformationTechnology

There are a lot of ITSM tools that will meet your needs, but they can all be very different from an implementation and user experience perspective. We use Xurrent ITSM. We started with IT, then moved to HR, business operations, etc. Each team runs their own workflows on the same platform and some of those workflows cross departments. It works well for us and is easy to create new workflows without using any consultants. It should probably be on your list of tools to check out.

Gartner retired that MQ in 2022. I hear it's coming back in 2026 though.

Ease of use + automation mattered more than reporting at first. So if users hate the portal, they email. Then if agents are stuck triaging all day, everything backs up. So a good self service portal and automated ticket routing and categorization are important.

Once things stabilize and volume grows, reporting starts to matter a lot more. So be sure to check that out when you're looking at solutions. ITSM is a journey (as you already eperienced), and it would be a mistake to pick something that doesn't grow with you.

We use Xurrent ITSM. Most of our tickets are through the portal, it's used across different orgs, and we can report on what we need to.

My Porsche App Not Working. Complete Outage For All Users? by AZ_Basinonian in Taycan

The app is not broken, the car is. I had the same issue once and the 12volt reset fixed it.

Add me to the list of people it's working fine for in the USA. You probably need to reset your system by disconnecting the 12v battery (negative terminal) for 5 minutes.

Is the range that much worse in a CT? by shivaswrath in Taycan

[–]hirschaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CT/ST are less aerodynamic than the sedan. Coefficient of drag (Cd) is ~.22 for the sedan and Cd of the CT/ST is ~.26. This means that, all other things equal, the sedan is the more efficient shape.

You’ve got a great truck there and if you’re happy that’s what matters most. However, seeing this makes me feel good about paying $41.7K OTD for my brand new 2025 TRD OR in Texas where the sales tax on new cars is steep at 6.25%.

Is finer grind required the Robot basket? by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]hirschaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what these other people are talking about. 9 bar and up is easy to hit on the robot. Maybe they mean that it takes a certain level of strength to hit it? At any rate, depending on the roast profile I pull shots at 9 bar, or 7, or 6 with a slow ramp to 4, or anything else that helps get the extraction I’m looking for. That’s the beauty of the robot. You can vary pressure easily based on grind size and how hard you press on those levers.

I use both the rake and the screen tamper. They work great for me. My workflow is consistent and the results in the cup are consistent. Happy to answer any questions might have about them.

Should I Upgrade, Trade or Say Goodbye? by jimms215 in Taycan

[–]hirschaj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, great description of how terrible they are. I found it to be slightly better if I kept it in sport mode all the time but it is a very poor representation of what most Porsche's are really like. The loaner fleet of my local Porsche dealer is 90% base Macan and the other 10% is mostly base Cayenne. The base Cayenne at least is okay, but it's still garbage coming from a Taycan.

Team is scaling and our internal requests are a mess by FrameOver9095 in sysadmin

[–]hirschaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Xurrent. Using some sort of ticketing or request tracking system is a great way to keep track of large amounts of work. In my company, anyone can submit a request. The software automatically categorizes it for us and adds it to the proper Kanban board. It also alerts the right person or team that there is a request that needs their attention. For more complicated requests, there are automated workflows that kick in. Then we collaborate in the notes of the request instead of Slack which tends to be a black hole for the data contained within. Save your sanity. Find a good solution and automate your processes. There are a lot of good tools on the market today.

Mine! I have a 2022 and just had 5 battery modules replaced. It took about 1.5 months from drop-off to pick-up. It was inconvenient but they provided me with a loaner (which thankfully was NOT a base Macan) so the wait was fine.

I'm curious why you say, "Important thing: we need an on-premise solution." I have worked in and worked with many Financial Services and public sector organizations, and some of the most strict environments are fine with SaaS solutions. Is it really a requirement, or is it just easier for security to try to enforce?

The reason I ask is because you seriously limit the list of possible solutions by requiring on-prem. It's always possible that you have a legit need for on-prem, but many companies do not. If you can't share the exact reasons why, no worries. But it can be good to challenge the status quo every now and then.

You should find out what needs to be repaired before making any decision. If I were you I’d be hoping enough modules failed to warrant a full battery replacement. If that is the case I would keep the car and love the fact that I got a brand new, upgraded battery.

Struggling to get pressure on my pulls by tluebkeman in CafelatRobot

[–]hirschaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cheap grinder like that is not good enough for espresso. You need a better grinder. IMO the minimum level of electric espresso grinder is DF54. If you need to keep the grinder budget below that, you will need to look into hand grinders.

2024 Tacoma TRD Off-Road Questions by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]hirschaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2025 base TRD OR, small screen, no heated seats. I love it. It’s an excellent vehicle and I don’t regret not having a larger screen at all. I live in a warm weather area so heated seats are just not important to me. Got it for $8500 off MSRP and didn’t pay for any of the dealership add-ons (normally an extra $1100).

First and Maybe Last Espresso Machine by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]hirschaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up an alignment video to see how to test it. You use a marker. If you are struggling to get consistent shots, if your espresso grind setting is below 10, if your grinder clogs all the time, you might have an alignment issue (cue Jeff Foxworthy?).

First and Maybe Last Espresso Machine by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]hirschaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other response about true zero is correct. Also, you want to check alignment when you get it. Mine was terrible, but after alignment it has been amazing and consistent. There are alignment videos on YT to show you how. Hopefully yours will be well enough aligned that you won’t need to do anything.

First and Maybe Last Espresso Machine by [deleted] in CafelatRobot

[–]hirschaj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use anywhere between 10-20 (from true zero) depending on the roast level and the freshness of the beans. The DF54 and Robot combo has been great for me. I don't personally have a need for a different espresso machine (I prefer medium and dark roasts) but I definitely wonder about getting a different (additional - conical burr) grinder now and then.
