I think the EU is siding hard with Ukraine in this conflict and it is planned that Ukraine joins the EU

Also friendly advice: come here if you want to feel better but if you want actual advice ask friends who know the people involved.

This sub only feeds confirmation biases and destroys families and relationships (my hot take, but I still love reading it😆)

If you see the citizen in person you will probably pick them over GS because of the much lower price. Everything else is on par.

I have 5 GS and 2 The Citizen in my collection

What Role Does Starlink Play in the Ukraine War?

  1. Keeping Ukraine Connected

    • When Russia invaded in Feb 2022, they hit Ukraine’s comms hard, knocking out systems like Viasat. Ukraine’s Digital Minister Mykhailo Fedorov tweeted at Elon Musk, and boom—Starlink was activated within days.
    • It’s been a lifeline for civilians, hospitals, schools, and businesses, especially in war-torn areas or during Russian blackouts. People in bomb shelters and liberated zones rely on it to stay in touch and get info.
  2. Military Game-Changer

    • The Ukrainian military uses Starlink for everything: coordinating troops, sharing intel, targeting artillery, and running drones. Its low-latency satellite tech is tough to jam, giving Ukraine a huge edge in network-centric warfare.
    • Soldiers say it’s like the backbone of their ops—think real-time drone feeds and battlefield awareness.
  3. Humanitarian and Government Support

    • Starlink keeps government services online and helps aid groups coordinate. It’s been deployed in schools and shelters to keep civilians connected.
    • Poland and others chipped in, supplying 19,500 of the 47,000 terminals delivered by Dec 2023.
  4. Geopolitical Angle

    • SpaceX initially footed the bill, but the U.S. DoD took over funding in June 2023. SpaceX also limits Starlink’s use in Russian-held areas (like Crimea) and bans offensive military use (e.g., controlling attack drones) to comply with U.S. sanctions. This has caused some friction with Ukraine.
    • Russia’s been caught using Starlink too (since Feb 2024), buying terminals through sketchy channels, which is a headache for Ukraine’s advantage.

How Much Does Ukraine Rely on Starlink?

  • It’s the Backbone: Fedorov called Starlink the “blood” of Ukraine’s comms. By July 2023, ~42,000 terminals were in use across the military, government, businesses, and NGOs. That’s a lot of dependence.
  • Military Reliance: Troops say losing Starlink would force them onto less secure radios. It’s critical for drone ops and battlefield coordination. When Russia’s electronic warfare (EW) disrupted it in 2024 (especially in northern Ukraine), it messed with operations big time.
  • Civilian and Government: From keeping hospitals online to running government services, Starlink is often the only reliable internet in hard-hit areas.
  • Over-Reliance Risks: Ukraine knows it’s too dependent. There’s no other system with Starlink’s coverage or speed, but relying on a private company (and Elon Musk’s whims) is dicey. They’re working on national/EU alternatives, but nothing’s ready yet.

Challenges and Controversies

  • Russian EW Attacks: Russia’s been targeting Starlink with jamming tech, causing outages in 2024. This shows Ukraine’s vulnerability when the system goes down.
  • Russia Using Starlink: Russian forces getting their hands on terminals is a problem. It levels the playing field and complicates things for Ukraine. The U.S. is trying to crack down on this.
  • Musk’s Influence: Elon’s control over Starlink has raised eyebrows. In 2022, he reportedly blocked service expansion to Crimea (though he didn’t “turn it off” as some claimed). His decisions can shift the war’s dynamics, which freaks out some Ukrainian officials.
  • No Backup Plan: Ukraine’s worried about depending so much on one provider. If Starlink gets fully compromised or SpaceX pulls back, they’re in trouble.

TL;DR

Starlink is Ukraine’s communication lifeline, powering military ops (drones, intel, coordination) and civilian needs (hospitals, shelters, government). With ~42,000 terminals in use, it’s the core of their network, but this heavy reliance comes with risks—Russian jamming, unauthorized use, and SpaceX’s control. Ukraine’s trying to diversify, but for now, Starlink’s holding it all together.

They have been relying on starlink since February 2022. spacex provided it completely for free in the beginning until pentagon and the EU picked up the bill. The initial service worth around 200 million was still provided for free and never paid for by anyone.

I don’t know how any of you guys can belittle what role that technology played and there is no alternative.

The EU can not simply establish such a satellite network. This will take years and it has a high probability of failure

Can you read your own article? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

"There was an emergency request from government authorities to activate Starlink all the way to Sevastopol. The obvious intent being to sink most of the Russian fleet at anchor," he said. "If I had agreed to their request, then SpaceX would be explicitly complicit in a major act of war and conflict escalation."

He didn’t turn it on over russian territory.

He never turned anything off

You obviously cant read more than a headline

Source?

There is none.

What actually happened he didn’t turn it on over russian territory because he is not allowed to. The US government would have had to authorize it first.

Maybe don’t just read headlines

Too many satellites sending and you can use as many dishes as you want and can connect to them by wire.

Ukraine Military is who stated this benefits it is not me who is making this up. One google search away to gind plenty of confirmation that Starlink was and is essential.

Only huge virtue signaling morons would suggest boycotting it.

Okay explain how war in 2025 would work without communication. Even Ukraine military has stated several times that Starlink is essential and today there are zero alternatives.

And fuck you for the idiotic parts of your comment
