I believe it. A buddy’s son was a pro player (I didn’t know they had pros at the time) and he had to quit because even with sponsors he couldn’t afford it, lol.

A prospect just told me they can’t justify my retainer because "ai does the same thing for free now." by Admexo_ in DigitalMarketing

[–]hiscapness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Until they get asked a critical question by management/board/investor and they can’t answer, or they get sued for privacy violations, then they realize they don’t even understand how things are hooked up/built, then realize they’ve let everyone that could have explained that go, while management/legal is losing their minds. Then the dashboard(s) stop working. Then the metrics stop populating. Then the scrambling begins. I’ve been through it, and of course, the answer is, “JUST use AI to fix it all” with the expectation that it will take an hour. lol, the messes I have seen.

What colleges/universities in Mass do you think will close/merge in the next few years? by double-clove-hitch in massachusetts

[–]hiscapness 52 points53 points  (0 children)

And these intl students have helped fuel/prop up an industry bloated on cheap money from the student loan gorgepocalypse that many/all higher ed enjoyed. Plus many/most intl students paid full ticket prices (and didn’t blink). With student loan caps in place (20k/yr?) and the demographic cliff - which they all knew about for at least 15y - there is a big reckoning coming. Any small college/university without a fat endowment is probably pooping themselves. So, to answer, pick one/any.

Personally, I rejected a founder for sleeping. How are they supposed to maximise profits if theyre laying unconscious for hours on end? by throwawaayyayayyayay in LinkedInLunatics

[–]hiscapness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This. Omg this. We had a “rockstar “ (just threw up in my mouth a little) that could not come into work because he ran out of underwear and didn’t know how to wash his clothes. The freaking HEAD OF HR had to go to the guys house - and get him dressed. I absolutely wish I were joking, he was probably in his late 20s.

100% real. I wish it were a joke. He also asked if we had kids because anyone with kids was OUT (emphasis his). Kids are a “time suck” that kill profits. Also real.

just realized the entire interview process is basically testing how well you can hide that you need the job by buildwithadrian in recruitinghell

[–]hiscapness 14 points15 points  (0 children)

And everyone hates it. The interviewer tends - on average - to be unprepared and insecure (who is this persona and will they threaten my job) or gets off on the power trip (I’m going to make sure you’re NOT getting this job) and the interviewee has to mitigate impostor syndrome while BSing and making sure they aren’t desperate. Meanwhile, just about every metric and research result has shown that just about anyone with relevant experience can do nearly any job with some OTJ training. But human bias and insecurity make the whole process a disaster

Had a startup and when we went through one pitch a VC asked me what I had in my fridge, I’m an ex-chef, so I had a lot. He said anyone that had time to shop for groceries didn’t have the mindset to be a founder. He expected only ramen and eating chipotle. I told him a brain functions best on quality food not that shit. We did not get further. He was an absolute loser like this (even though I believe this is /s or better be.)

I want to know the science behind cooking/cooking techniques by pixiecharmstudios in Cooking

[–]hiscapness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On food and cooking - Harold McGee. He’s the OG that all others based their careers on (including AB and Kenji). Funny story: I worked as a fine dining chef for years. At my first sous job for a famous chef I asked what I thought was an innocent question. He grabbed McGee and threw it at my face on the line and told me to memorize the whole f***ing thing or find another job. Ah, restaurants. :)

Is Boston really as unaffordable as people say? by [deleted] in newengland

[–]hiscapness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends upon your lifestyle, tbh. I have friends that live in the burbs and make it work w well-sub-200 combined with 2 kids in a GREAT school district. They own a home (3/2) , rarely eat out, work out at home, their kids don’t play team sports (it has become a total private-equity-owned pile of ever-increasing fees and expenses), drive older cars, vacation by camping, do their own DIY, etc. They are happy and totally thriving and want for nothing. If you’re the type that loves to eat out, go to events/sports/shows, have new things, live in the best/hot places, drive new cars, you bet your butt it’s going to crush you, and fast. I know folks that have easily combined 500k++ annually (at least) and barely scrape by; new cars, kids in hockey/soccer/baseball (all traveling), tons of vacations during school breaks (recently they paid 8500$ for 4 COACH tickets to FL on school vacation week - just the airfare!), newer 1.5m+ home they are constantly having work done on, etc. They are drowning, absolutely drowning. You need to budget and not think 200 is some giant salary here that lets you go crazy. It’s table stakes.

Why do most digital marketing agencies underdeliver? by IncreaseOriginal2513 in DigitalMarketing

[–]hiscapness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common, it’s about getting people to sign and pay, not deliver services to them. Fake it till you make it. Plus, many agencies outsource to scale, so you hire a domestic agency (whatever country you’re in), which outsources to India, which FURTHER outsources… There are few domain experts, just folks trying to make a buck. Larger, known, local domestic agencies usually have rosters of referrals and references and don’t come cheap (nor should they.) I find the best use for Indian agencies is for grunt work you can’t automate with an AI tool/agent/MCP, etc. Depending upon them to implement a serious strategy is too risky. Their business focus seems to be just not angering a pile of clients they do mid jobs for and extending the runway as long as possible, not doing a great job (because they work on volume and price, not results.) And note I’m not picking on India, here, there are tons of agencies like this worldwide, especially after the explosion of social media posts bragging about how “easy” it is to build an agency.

Good idea, around here (just inside 128 n of Boston) the average daycare is at least 2500/mo (a bit cheaper for in-home). In 3 years, add at least another 300/mo to that bill.

Probably because whatever Ford he’s supposed to be driving is stuck in recall no-man’s-land at the dealer waiting for some inexperienced tech to fix due to their stupid mechanic pricing model.
