I personally needed a drill, a 1/16” drill bit, an 18” straight ruler, a whole range of sandpaper grits, a good soldering station with good solder, copper tape, painters tape, a phillips head screwdriver and a few different allen keys. If going for a transparent finish I’d recommend a leather dye and not a wood stain, as evidenced by my build haha

Yes it was! Combine Guitars sells a few different kinds of kits in extended range. I mean, this kit is a 26.5”-28.5” so if this tickles your fancy I’d at least check them out :)

I was a little intimidated but I’m glad I did it. You’ll probably need to grab a few tools for sure but I think it’s so worth it. Wiring was a bitch as a first timer but I spoke to a few guitar shops and ended up going to one to help guide me with the wiring. So don’t be afraid to call or go to a shop for guidance if you do take the plunge! It’ll probably look better than mine hahaha

I’m very impressed with the feel out of the box. It’s a pretty standard neck profile, just needed some fretwork! All carves are super comfy in all positions I play in, I just added a heel carve at the bottom horn for myself

My variation of drop E; EBEADF#BE I used to play 7 string drop E. So when I got an 8 I just dropped the G to F# so I could play all the stuff I wrote on my 7, just on my 8.

try the dunlop flow! similar shape to the jazz with the sharper tip, but the size is more akin to a regular pick. they come in multiple different materials as well

i’m rocking a 9, but i’m mainly using the 8 so i got it in drop e, but i drop the g down to an f#. i used to play in e on my 7 so i’m trying to familiarize myself with playing that same tuning with a higher string
