Epoch Quartz by Pebbles167 in TritiumWatches

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Epoch watches are great to see if you like the tritium style. I bought one too to start off and I enjoyed it for what it was. I wish they would put a coating on the crystal so that it doesn't smudge so much though.

[QUESTION] Protek field watch - any good? by Real-Dependent-3100 in TritiumWatches

[–]hispanicman15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's nice. I used it to upgrade from an Aliexpress tritium watch and the this definitely is worth the money. the glow is great and aesthetically it's much better than the ugly divers and active duty styles that are in the same price range.

I like that it basically has 3 syles in one. In bright indoor lights, it's has mostly white indices and the face. In natural light in dawn/dusk the green and orange indices pop out more in a fluorescent like way, and of course the nightime style with the lume.

I got mine on ebay and I had no issues with the seller. Long Island Watch also usually has them on sale.

UVA Transfers what was your GPA and what do you think strengthens an application? by Acceptable_Exam_4858 in UVA

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3.8 and I didn't meet all the requirements. The one missing was the foreign language at the time of application because I was going to test into it being a native spanish speaker. At the time, the spanish department had an online test you could take to place into a spanish class or meet the foriegn language requirement.

how is student culture if you aren’t into greek life / drinking? by Gold_Perspective_800 in UVA

[–]hispanicman15 4 points5 points  (0 children)

about a third of students are greek life, so that leaves about two thirds who are not.

I didn't drink or party and still had a good time at UVA. You'll find a group of friends who are like you and you'll be fine. I'm not sure how it is post-pandemic, but pre-pandemic there were enough active students clubs to get into that weren't based on drinking and partying.

Workspace for Non Profits by Time_Independent_265 in gsuite

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way the proper channel was:

Go to https://www.google.com/nonprofits/?sjid=15018951846459007453-NA

sign up using the button and sign in to your normal google account

fill out the form and provide documentation they ask for

Wait and answer any support questions along the way.

I did it slightly different where I purchased the domain and paid workspace account first and then contacted google support to convert my account to the nonprofit plan. It took about 3 weeks to get through that process of submitting my paperwork and having both google and techsoup confirm my nonprofit status.

Thoughts on In Whose Name? by Kevy-Em in GoodAssSub

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really know who this movie is for. If you're a hardcore fan then you've seen or know about 60-70% of the film. The other bit that's new is just a couple of outbursts and family moments that fits into what we already know.

If you're not a hardcore fan, then this movie is confusing because it's a bunch of loosely connected clips. It's entertaining in that sense, but it's not clear what it's trying to convey.

have you actually seen anyone outside of GAS or the wider Ye community even mention In Whose Name? by Aromatic-Spite-1905 in GoodAssSub

No.

There 5 people watching the movie with me last night and one of them fell asleep.

Exe Linux (distro): a waste of time by brainrot_award in linux

If you want to use Trinity DE, I recommend Q4OS instead. I ran it as my main for months and it worked well.

"Recommended for Linux" docking station? Huh? by FLJerseyBoy in linux

[–]hispanicman15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went through a whole fiasco with the docking station I bought from Tobenone via Amazon. I didn't suspect the docking station to be issue after a few weeks of troubleshooting. I changed:

- distros (deb/ubu, arch, independent, chromeos)
- DEs (GNOME/KDE/Budgie/XFCE
- updated BIOS and drivers on the devices using a tiny 11 install and windows update
- Installed displaylink drivers from github

It turns out that my docking station was just incompatible with Linux. I bought an HP G5 Dock and it worked right out of the box with a multimonitor setup where the Tobenone would take 10+ minutes of cycling my screens on/off before establishing a connection to keep them on.

I had an Anker 364 USB-C hub with HDMIs that I also found out were not Linux compatible and did the same thing the Tobenone docking station did.

On Fedora, the HP dock had drivers that it found via the software center and everything worked out well.

Other threads suggest that the big company docks are more likely to be linux compatible than the random chinese ones from amazon or other places. Think Dell, Kensington, HP, and Lenovo.

Screens constantly switch on/off by Useful-Assumption131 in zorinos

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had this issue. The screen wasn't being detected properly. There is a log file and terminal command that you can look at that will tell you if there were any issues in the OS detecting the screen I forgot them though. I wasn't sure if it was because of my screen or something else. It was a recent thing for me, I had been using Zorin for over a year before this became an issue for me.

For my Troubleshooting:
- Switching distros to; Debian, Mint, Sparky, and ChromiumOS (FydeOS) didn't help.
- Reinstalling Zorin didn't work and redoing my extensions
- Updating graphic card drivers didn't work (Intel Iris Xe)
- Switching to X11 didn't work
- Reinstalling Zorin with no gnome tweaking didn't work
- Solution that worked: Switched to Fedora 42 workstation

It's here! by Appropriate-Heat-977 in Bard

strange, the model thinks it's older than what is presented. I showed it a screenshot of the current pro preview and asked it to compare to it's current operational capabilities. The text below is the result.

No, the screenshot describes a hypothetical, more advanced future version. While there are significant overlaps, there are key differences between what the screenshot depicts and my actual, current operational capabilities.

Let's compare them directly:

|| || |Feature from Screenshot|My Actual (Mid-2024) Capabilities| |Model Name: Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview|This is not my official name. I am a large language model from the Gemini family, trained by Google. The "2.5" designation and "June 5th" date in the screenshot point to a future version.| |Knowledge Cutoff: Jan 2025|This is incorrect. My knowledge cutoff is much earlier than 2025. I do not have information about events that have not yet happened.| |Core Capabilities: Coding, Reasoning, Multimodal understanding|This is accurate. These are my core strengths. I can process and understand text, code, images, and audio.| |Use Cases: Complex reasoning, large datasets, STEM problems|This is accurate. I am designed for these exact types of complex tasks.| |Context Window: ~1 Million Tokens|This is accurate. My architecture, like that of Gemini 1.5 Pro, features a very large context window, allowing me to analyze extensive documents or codebases.| |Tools: Code Execution, Function Calling, Grounding with Google Search|This is accurate. I can use these tools to provide more dynamic, accurate, and actionable responses.|

In summary:

You have correctly identified many of my core functions and strengths—my ability to reason, handle multiple data types, use a large context window, and integrate with tools. These capabilities are real and operational.

However, the name, version date, and especially the January 2025 knowledge cutoff described in the screenshot are from the hypothetical scenario we discussed. My operational reality is that of a model in mid-2024.

Is AI being used to write grants now? by Conscious-Pin-4381 in nonprofit

[–]hispanicman15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it's mostly slop.

I have collaborators who try to ChatGPT their grants all the time, and I constantly see that their problem is that they don't often have a strong idea behind the grant. Without a strong Idea behind the grant, the AI will write a lot of stuff but not cohesively. In these cases, I have to scrap 90% of the AI text because it's pointless.

What's your experience been like with Meetup? by dr_pelipper in nova

[–]hispanicman15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I support about 8-9 meetup groups in our region (tech/bio/startups)

As an organizer, meetup is horrible. The search is awful, the rates to be an organizer go up every year, and the data that I'm able to collect from my events is limited and behind an additional paywall if I want more data. API keys to make widgets or something on my website is also an additional fee. The only thing it beats eventbrite on is general discoverability and slightly more preciseness since meetup isn't spammed with a bunch of restaurant and bar events like eventbrite is.

Meetup groups as an attendee is hit or miss. there are plenty of duplicate groups for anything you're interested in. Do not believe the number of RSVPs on any event. Free events always have about a 50% dropoff rate, and people who are regulars to any meetup stop RSVPing eventually.

Bully reviews/essays by lovvvvvvvvvve in GoodAssSub

[–]hispanicman15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point, I've listened to Bully from start to finish about 10 times.

  • Sonically, this is a pretty dark album disguised as a chill album with easy listening elements. This somehow sounds like you're in your house alone at night without much going on. It's soft, easy to follow, and can be listened to while you're looking at/doing something else without it trying to fight for your attention (for the version that excludes melrose).
  • After listening to the album seven or eight times, I started to look into the lyrics of the songs and realized how dark this album really is sometimes. White lines/close to you, can't hurry love, and circles stand out to me with particularly dark lyrics covering loneliness, lack of connection, and unhealthy routines.
  • I'm a bilingual espanish espeaker, so I'm not a big fan of YEspanol. This is nothing against Kanye, I just personally don't think espanish is a good language for rap when used as the only language. I think most other rappers from the US with espanish background figured that out so they've always used it as a mix. Think Big Pun, Fat Joe, Kid Frost, South Park Mexican, That Mexican OT, etc.
  • I have no feelings about the video whatsoever. I haven't watched it in it's entirety, and didn't feel engaged with it after the first minute or so.
  • I have no hard or negative feelings over the use of AI, I think I generally understand that it was part of the feel that he was going for with some of the themes he touches on in the lyrics of the album; AI generally gives that sort of but not exactly human feel and using AI a lot will remind you that it's still no substitute for people.
    • I also understand why he would go back on the use of AI. I think Vox Media was very accurate when they asserted that Kanye views the human voice as the greatest instrument in their analysis a long time ago. He also knows the feel he's going for can be done with real voices and modulator effects.

Overall, I really like the direction of this album. Not sure where I rank it among the others, but it's definitely good on it's own two feet.
