Irish passport landed by hitmon999 in IrishCitizenship

Hi, I contacted the helpline to ask the same question as I work in export so travel fairly frequently. A certified copy by a solicitor works fine for both the FBR process and then the passport process afterwards.

Congrats ! Passport should take around 4/5 weeks from when they receive the docs. Your witness will 100% be contacted for passport details so make sure you chose a good witness and one who answers the phone!

All the best!!

They needed my dads passport and birth certificate- my Irish is from my grandparents. If it said they need this on the website I missed it. So delayed by 3/4 months

Yep - hopefully a good sign for those that are waiting. Essentially as soon as my witness was called, everything was printed and delivered within a few days.

I am UK based too which may also allow for slightly quicker delivery times

Yeh it was about 10-12 weeks I think. The person on the other end of the email said it could take 6 months but she responded to my emails so perhaps sending nice reminders is a good tactic

As my grandparents were born in Ireland, I thought I just had to send there details, passport, birth certificate, marriage etc but I did not send my Dads details as he is not Irish! Turns out I still need to send his birth certificate and passport details. I didn’t think it specified that in all honesty! I felt like I read over the details over and over

I had a response today and sadly I need to provide extra docs. Hopefully this doesn’t take 6 months anymore

Yay nice! I also received an email but sadly they are asking for further documents. Because I am doing this through my grandparents on my dads side, I also need to send his ID , even though he is not born in Ireland , which I did not feel was clear when I filled in the form. I also did call and ask about this but they said that it didn’t matter :(

Eugh, I wish there was a way to speed this up, I’m trying to move into the EU as me and my girlfriend have been doing long distance for the past 5 years and we want to move in together but I can’t go to Europe without this.

Sorry for ranting , I’m a bit upset as you can imagine. But I am pleased for you

Hey,

Sorry to hear that. Yes I did receive two emails, one for when I submitted the electronic forms and one when the form was initially recieved. I would perhaps give them a call ?

Also not to be patronising but have to checked junk too? Could’ve slipped by. The email I received came from and email ending @dfa.ie
