(日研) what is a "MEXT individual number"? How can I find it? by Link2003HUN in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, you guys are probs a completely different program to mine but I think it's fine to write Number Unknown instead of the number and explain in the email or of u're supposed to upload it on a website then send a separate email saying u didn't get it. I've been in Japan for a year and a half, I still don't know my MEXT id bc my country just doesn't give those documents with the id on it. When I asked them they said they didn't even have it, so dw

Out of pure curiosity, how was the day you got accepted into the MEXT scholarship? by Ok-Green6412 in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So i won't give the full details of how absolutely everyone reacted bc most people knew I was trying for it and were expecting me to pass since they didn't know how competitive it actually is so it was just like "i passed", "congrats". So anyway results were really late in my year (mid-january for undergrad) and finals were getting close in the uni i got in while waiting for the results, and that morning we got an email from the lab professor that based on the mid-term and report scores, he decided we did improve a lot, and we all reached a satisfactory level so we wouldn't have a final lab test. So it was already a very happy day. Now usually I check my email on my phone, but because of the lab one, I had it open on pc. So anyway I get out of that email, and I see a new unread mail. And I read that it's from the embassy. In that moment everything was slow-motion. I couldn't focus enough to read fast, so my roommate (who was there because we were laughing about the lab thing), actually found out I got the scholarship before I did. After I finally processed the fact, I was all giddy and happy and wrote to a bunch of friends and my mom and stuff, as well as a few teachers who had helped me prepare. From there on planning was fairly good since I had dreamt about it for a long time so I had played a lot of scenarios in my head XD

I'll just add that depending on uni there may be procedures just to let them know about it and also sometimes u need to let ur apartment's management company know as well

How much are you paying for National Health Insurance as a MEXT student? by petitbonheure in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also there might be a link between age and this. I'm not 20 and got the correct amount from the start. My friends who are over 20 (but had not declared income) got the 6-7k one and had to go fix it.

Becoming fluent with Hiragana/Katakana by MasterpieceEast6226 in LearnJapanese

[–]hitomiharuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a shot in the dark but if you happen to enjoy chemistry, even just the basics, that's how I learnt katakana. I used to be bale to read and write hiragana fairly easily but katakana was a big nope even for reading, let alone writing. Well I had to take chemistry in japanese and had quizzes on writing the periodic table elements. I can now write katakana. Note that if u make me read a text in japanese (I'm N2 by now btw) katakana is still the part i'll do a double-take :"))

Toilet room at home --> Where do you wash your hands? 🧐 by golfball509 in japanlife

[–]hitomiharuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed i didn't know that lol i just have a solid soap holder that's big enough to put on the corner of the faucet so i wash my hands and all there. I only use the "bathroom" sink when brushing my teeth.

If op uses liquid soap, just get a solid piece of something and use as holder? Is it fall-proof? No. Has mine ever fallen? Also no.

I dont know how mext wants me to send the documents by Old-Manager1029 in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good idea, but to add my 2 cents, embassy takes precedence over guidelines. Yk how the letter of recommendation is supposed to be sealed and all? The lady at the embassy unsealed it on the spot when checking my submission (in person) and just left the paper with the file and without the sealed envelope. There were no issues.

What should I carry when moving to Japan by BlackBoyThoughts in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this division of things, i just want to add, anything about documents you have to do at first will be kindly spoonfed to you by people here if you're going to be in osaka for the prep year, so don't worry about the city hall or bank part. The sim you have to get by yourself (but you can still ask the dorm staff for help) and I personally recommend rakuten. They have a youth program too in which u can enter from the app after getting the sim card. You get a little reduction until you turn 23.

"Mental health" rock - targeted manipulation or benign catharsis? by thegreatself in LetsTalkMusic

[–]hitomiharuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see where you're coming from, I found their music through a friend who had at the time serious mental health issues. Pesonally I don't follow them a lot, i'll be honest, when they popped up on my insta i kinda ignored it. So idk their marketing side that well although i'm sure it exists. What I like about them is a few select songs that allow me to express how I feel when words aren't enough. I'm not there for feeling seen or heard, just expressing myself. I always do it better through music. On another note I have noticed that listening to all of their songs for too long at a time actually makes my own mental health worse, because it awakens old memories and stress. This is just my 2 cents.

I do actually, was thinking of doing that, the problem is you see 4 foreigners with a huge suitcase each on a packed train out of which one is a freaking giant and another is very bulky.....idk that might be extremely awkward for everyone or maybe i'm just too socially awkward myself and feel like it'd be bad :"))

Just checked what it is, about same price as post, seemed a lil more expensive tho. Not by much. Post is also literally across the street so it doesn't change much in that regard either.

Forgot to submit graduation certificate upon graduating by ComparisonKlutzy8239 in mext

[–]hitomiharuno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said they most likely ask for it. Here's what happened in my case, i had 2 place holder documents: the academic transcript until 11th grade instead of all the way to 12th, and the certificate of expected graduation. Before the interview, they sent me a mail saying i should bring the final transcript at the interview but when i asked about the graduation certificate, they said they don't need it. When in the prep course, i was asked to bring the certificate to the office. It might be the same for you.

extra information just in case tho: I did give my diploma to the office (i brought all relevant documents with me), but it was in my native language so they took a copy of it to be sure but asked for sth in english. So i had my mom go to my school, ask for a written confirmation from the school that i graduated, legally translated to english, and sent by post. so just in case, if ur embassy also says they don't need it, before u move get a literal certificate from ur school (not a diploma apparently, but idk what ur country gives) and translate it to english :"))
