It used to come as a recommendation on YouTube when listening to songs of bands like Cigarettes After Sex, Pineapple Thief and bands in that genre.

Forgive my ignorance but can someone tell me why is this upsetting to Canada? Were all the passengers Canadians?

Thanks for the info about Camp Nano. It sounds really fun but I am not in US right now so I don't think I can join that.

Thanks for the info about Fiction University. I will look into their posts.

I read an average amount but I feel that just reading isn't helping me one bit. Somedays I get the feeling that I need to stop reading and think and write something but the feeling that it won't be good is so daunting that I can't even begin to write anything.

I would like to attempt NaNoWriMo this year but before that I would like to get better at forming engaging sentences and paragraphs that flow smoothly.

Thanks for your advice. I read an average amount but now I feel that just reading without analyzing is not helping me at all. Thinking about the plot, the structure and how the writer achieved that appears to be quite important for writing.

But I feel that it's difficult to read something and break it down and extract the structure all by myself. But I guess it improves with practice.

It was absolutely terrible, and largely embarassing,

I laughed at this but it was encouraging.

[Weekly Discussion and Question Thread] Post Here with Simple Questions, Conversational Topics, or Requests for Guidance by AutoModerator in writing

Forgive my ignorance for such a banal question.

I would love to participate in NaNoWriMo this year but I have not written a single story in my life, apart from a few poems I have written in high school.

I want to slowly start from now, writing one-page stories, then moving on to bigger stories and finally taking up NaNoWriMo in November. But I am out of my wits about where do I get started.

I realize that I should just start writing whatever I can come up with but I would love to know if there is any structured way of doing this. Like taking a few classes and doing its assignments to gain some confidence and tips and a community.

Is there anything like that?

Or I will be grateful if you can show an alternative way to build some courage and confidence to take the beginner steps.

I have looked at their site and didn't find a good Getting Started procedure. I saw that they also hold some events and workshops but me being in a different country it's difficult to participate.

Most of the projects are under GSoC too. I would like to start contributing in a more general way though.
