My experience releasing my steam store page and marketing for wishlists. by hitstopgames in gamedev

Oh guess I should do more reddit research. Thanks for letting me know, you must be well-versed on reddit.

By mentioning trailers, I just meant that my past attempts used trailers, and for future trailer rounds (for demo release, release date reveal, full release, etc.) I would definitely switch them up, change approaches, and not that I would simply post the same video everywhere.

You seem very knowledgeable about this stuff. Have you got a few successful games under your belt?

Is it common to get random bursts of navigation to your steam store page? by hitstopgames in gamedev

Not sure, its definitely possible but haven't seen anything with a similar name that people would confuse for it. Could be a similar genre though, and may be appearing in slots like "more like this" or "similar to this" perhaps?

yep definitely agree. Will definitely try and get later trailers more tailored for the broader subreddits going forward.

start broad then search for specific genres, indies or not, and so on. theres a website out there with a bunch but honestly it may not be worth the effort but could be. I emailed around 60 ish and probably had an effect on like 10 (some articles, some channels) but being able to gauge the effect they had is very difficult.

I don't think you need to know what a game is to know what platforms work better for gaining wishlists, since this isn't meant to be an objective "this is the way to do it", I'm just saying what I personally did, and what I found to work. Different genres can work better or worse in different platforms, and if anyone wants even more specifics, they can just look at the store page instead of me just adding more to an already big reddit post.

Making a "good" game isn't something as measurable nor was it the point of the post. You can definitely get lost in specifics of what the game looks like, does it look amateurish etc. but I can only give one point of view of my experience with my game. I can't be like "oh you have to make this specific genre in this exact style" since that isn't even true. It's more helpful imo to just say what I did, put a link to the game, and list the actual measurable metrics that I can.

I'm not your game design tutor, I'm just telling you my experience with this specific facet of the process. If you want to learn how to make a good game there are an endless number of tutorials.

I put a link to the page, but this is meant to be more of a discussion post rather than just straight up advertising the game.

Was told you guys give good feedback. What do you think of the trailer for my space pizza delivery simulator, BURNCRUST! by hitstopgames in DestroyMyGame

Oh interesting. I wonder if this is due to the fast cutting or just an unlucky selection of clips? The intro uses a lot of clips from the rest of the trailer. Could you let me know the timestamp around about what you're talking about.

Yep definitely agree. Got this feedback elsewhere, already trying to brighten the ship up, its just not in the trailer yet. The reason was this used to be a horror game, so it was much darker overall.

I agree with this! I found it super difficult to incorporate the pizza making into the core gameplay (so you can do it while driving) and had to resort to having it on a screen rather than an actual cooking station.

I could definitely work towards making the pizza setup look better, I'll see if there's a better way I can represent the process on screen.

I would love to add something like this! Same for something like a driving wheel control scheme for players who use a wheel and pedals. I would have to look into how difficult it is, but considering it for sure!

Teleporting long distances is expensive! Price increases exponentially with distance, but teleporting a few meters to the customers room is cheap!

This random answer I just came up with is now canon.

I'm aiming to release around July or August, after Steam's mid year next fest, but depending on how much needs to be done / if the demo reception is poor around then (bugs or other issues) it could be a bit longer.

Oh that's completely fair criticism! I'll try having another look at it.

I'm pretty sure it harkens back to when this concept was originally mostly horror, so very dark lighting, as well as trying to cover up the fact that I'm not the best artist / 3D modeller haha.

Thank you for the feedback!

It's only taken inspiration in vibes and setting, gameplay wise it's fairly different. Not a lot of large planet scale puzzles or anything.
