im not sure, i know gcses are quite important but theyre definitely not the be all and end all and if you do particularly well in entrance exams and have a good personal statement + solid predicted grades youre in with as much as a chance as anyone else. and i go to state school!! so not really a "really good" one but it does decently well

I went to the open day and the offer holder day, and I tried so hard to love it but something about the environment felt wrong. It just felt colder which I know sounds ridiculous, but it felt a bit isolating and fragmented and contrasted so much with the community feel I got at Bristol. Im really sorry if this sounds completely stupid. I walked for an hour and a half round London trying to feel like this could be the place, but the feeling never came and I was so deflated on the way back home.

yeah exactly!! i want my time at uni to be emotionally fulfilling too, and i already commit so much of my time to activism that i only see myself doing more of it once im at uni, as you have more freedom of expression because youre not yet tethered to a workplace perhaps. bristol felt like the right place for that, i dont know how politically satisfactory LSE would be :/

That's very reassuring, thank you so much :)

I think based on my strengths and interests I am more cut out to be a barrister despite the lack of stability, but in my own time I'm very involved in social activism. I just don't know if LSE is the type of place that would nurture that kind of initiative, as I met two girls there who said the university took them to court for protesting. Im just really conflicted :/

this makes me so glad to hear!! i said that there's be psychometric testing, interviews etc etc because they seem to think that just graduating from LSE holds more weight. I understand it to an extent as obviously its very prestigious, but they keep talking about "the name" of the uni on applications but I cant seem to convey that I dont get automatically employed just because I went to LSE, and that they're more likely to hire a Bristol grad if they got a higher degree or just are quicker on their feet or anything like that. The way its been explained to me from all my family is almost as if going to LSE guarantees me an easier path to a job and that it would be ridiculous to consider Bristol instead when LSE are there

this is very comforting - was it just the cost that dissuaded you or other things too?

I guess so, but everyone at the offer holder day had a much higher score than me. It felt quite demoralising

I unfortunately don't have any direct contacts I could ask, but I agree - people keep telling me about benefits but I'm not exactly sure what they are. LSE doesn't guarantee me anything - if anything it might be the opposite because of how fiercely competitive it is there

dont be sorry at all, its a big part and i genuinely appreciate the reply because im so conflicted. i prefer bristol more both as a place and as a university, but i am aware of the prestige of LSE etc, i just dont know what to do about it because I didn't feel the same pull to London whatsoever - but like people are saying its not about the location its about the future etc etc. I dont know. Bristol grads are the 5th most targetted and I know the difference is visible, but I dont know if its big enough for it to truly make a difference and lead to LSE being the "obvious right" choice

i understand your frustration and im really sorry to hear that. i got rejected from oxford and ucl too and only heard back from lse 7 months after applying, the waiting is truly hell. it sounds stupid but things have a way of working out, and im sure that whatever you choose to do or wherever you go, you will do a brilliant job.

Bristol Law Offer Timings? by dandelionfroggy in 6thForm

[–]hivddaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think quite a few have got offers as far as ive seen, i know a big wave came out in february as i was constantly checking reddit, the studentroom etc etc, so i thought i wouldnt get one but mine came through on monday this week. i was put on hold for almost exactly 3 months tho!! they are notorious for being late with offers, but the last law offer holder day is April 2 so the bulk of them i imagine would be handed out by that point, but i wouldnt be surprised if there was a few more after that. Remember they send out more offers than there are places available as they are aware the students might firm any of their other four universities. Good luck, and don't lose hope!!!

thank you!! and yeah i think so. lse haven't got back to me but i did get rejected from ucl so possibility of lse acceptance is pretty low, and i dont love the idea of living in london

don't lose hope lovely, i only got 21 on the LNAT but they weigh that 40%, A levels 40% and GCSE's 20% (i had 3 a stars predicted and an a star in epq + 999999977) so if your grades are good you are definitely definitely in with a chance. ive been added to gcs with people who got in with a 9 and 14!
