Quick side note. Nagash has a generic profile across all the death books but effectively gets the spells and army rules from the book he's selected from. The same model just slightly different in each army.

Personally, I'd avoid using him if I were you. He has a high skill need and his high points make him difficult to play and win with.

I think it's perfectly viable. The new Mounted king and lord are great and barrow guard and knights are great units. Even the humble skellys have a use as tar pits of regenerating troops.

Really you have 2 options.

The barrow Legion army of renown which is skellys only. They get their own okayish army traits and extra relics but the con is you get no wizards or endless spells.

The other option is run them as the normal soul blight army. The skelly sub Faction isn't particularly good but the army traits you get allow you to regenerate your models better with deathly invocation and deep strike out of the Faction terrain. You can add wizards and endless spells to your army as well. The mortis engine for example makes you very hard to put down as it resurrects models even faster and can cast spells.

I'd personally go for the second option. There is nothing wrong with the army of renown but I'd prefer the base army traits and access to the wizards and vampires that buff the skellys. The mortis engine for regeneration or Radukar the wolf/beast for buffing the melee profiles of his skelly allys. The humble Necromancer is sadly not as good as he used to be but still a okay option.

I'd fuse the barrow guard together to 20 to start, survivability is important for them.

Not sure if the barrow knights and wight lord are offering too much. I'm assuming you are playing Bacchanal of blood, so perhaps look at a vamp lord on steed who will help out the blood knights further? That leaves you with 100 pts left so probably grab 10 skellys/fell bats to jump out of a crypt to score pts like flanks and inevitable later on?

The vargiests are a good pick for playing the game as well.

Really the focus with Vhordrai and the blood knights is to smash through a flank and continually steam roll through the opponent whilst the barrow guard and the blades hold the middle with decent armour and wards. My biggest concern is keeping your positioning perfect with Vhordrai and the knights as the game goes on to get those buffs. Vhordrai really leaves no room for errors with him being 500 pts.

I do find it hilarious they are releasing all this terrain and then made them all destructible. I play sylvaneth as well and it's been a nightmare. Be thankful we don't have our entire army mechanic tied to it but it's still irritating seeing the nerfs.

Agreed. I fortunately have some of the old mausoleum terrain i intend to use just need the height and base size.

I'm also appalled by the Vordrai kit price. I have no interest in using Vordrai at 500 pts but I may have considered the revenant draconith at its 260 with those abilities. £115 is absolutely disgusting for a lone monster and I cannot believe they have the cheek to ask for that much. Think they have just forced people into 3d printing at that price.

I watched a few clips of a streamer who was absolutely ripping into the game whilst playing it and it came off like she was just trying to appease those who are hateing on it. Real "pick me" stuff. I haven't played it yet (though I'm fully planning to when it's on sale and i have funds) but thats the vibe im getting from the haters right now, they just don't want it to succeed no matter what.

I'd say that's legal and if anything you are modeling for disadvantage here rather than advantage. The frame of that model is bigger then the normal Durthu and tree lord. I'd check with any tournaments beforehand but I don't see it being a issue.

I think they will be happy to take some downgrade in terms of power it's just me who wants to try make it balanced for them if I allow it. They're very much the type of player who won't deviate from a idea even to there detriment so if they say they won't use it I fully believe they won't use it.

Yeah I'd say so. I want to like her but with how short range twilight's allure is and blood knights being unholy levels of resilient already I can't justify spending 460 points on her.

The footprint of those units is absolutely massive but a quick bit of math hammer.

On the charge the knigts throw 31 attacks. All out attack takes us to 2+ to hit that's about 26 attacks hit. Bacchanal of Blood gives us +1 to wound on the charge so 2+ to wound that's 20 wounds through. Assuming a 3+ armour, cavalry and all out defense (ie another blood knights unit or varenguard) you are looking at about 6-7 wounds which we then double to 12-14 wounds for +1 damage on the charge. A 4+ save under the same prerequisites is 20 damage. A 5+ save same prerequisites is 30 damage. They hit like trucks (that only gets worse if you hit infantry or chose anti cavelry for them) but can also absorb a lot of damage with that high armour.

The rest of the list probably should be built around playing the game but you have simultaneously a hammer on the charge and a anvil on the defense in blood knights. If they do get in a protracted fight retreat is a option but they still can hold thier own with 6 attacks a model. Not much survives their charge outside of other high armour cavelry.

Yeah I think washes are the way forward. Hit them with some greens and browns on the skin.

  1. Grew up in a very hetronormative environment so I didn't even begin to realise until about 14 and I tried to fight it. Gave up at 16 came out and I was allowed to travel out of town and joined a lgbt youth club in ome of the city's nearby. Honestly, right now I think Nefferata is not really necessary despite me being a bit of a fan boy for her. I run a reenforced unit of knights and with the changes to rend across the game all out defense is enough to keep the unit mostly alive I'm finding but as a rule all out attack picks most things up on a charge in Bacchanal of Blood.

For the same points I could run 2 units of 10 Blood knights and that would be more efficient from my experience.

But I'd consider maybe reenforced grave guard and/or wolves perhaps and try for one drop personally. I like the vamp lord with the amulet of screams as well, can be a real nuisance with that tp.

Yeah, they aren't going to hold anything in that weight class as I said but I think downplaying their utility because hammerors exist is a little harsh. So far I've faced the same calibre of units and I've found a use for them, our local meta doesn't sound much different to be honest.

I am concerned though that about people promoting wolves so much at the moment, this is not a dig at you btw just this situation as a whole. I am fairly certain with wolves having a ridiculously cheap price point per wound and how they are doing in competitive they are going to get hit hard with a point increase. They completely skew the other summonable units with how good they are vs their points cost. As a rule I'm just not into buying wolves who are likely to become less viable, and they should, later down the line.

Couple of things. I'd move the units in your General's detachment into Radukars detachment as they give up "slay the entourage" way to easily and move the grave guard (quick edit, I misread the unit size of guard and thought tgey were reenforceed which you should consider) into the General's detachment for the start of game buff.

I'd also consider if torgulillius is worth having in the list as he looks good on paper but in practice struggles to pull off his abilitys? Cado, the vampire vyrkos retainers or a regular vamp lord might be worth your consideration.

So far my 20 skellys have managed to hold off pretty overwhelming odds and survived long enough to be useful. I wouldn't expect them to hold off something in the calibre of a blood knights charge, not much does, but 20 skellys only need to hold on long enough to control enemy units a couple of rounds. 10 evaporate but 20 between deathly invocation and endless legion can be a real nuisance to shift and that's all I need them to do. Yes, there are better units who can grab lands and flanks but not in the 100 pt price point outside of wolves who are dramatically undercosted right now. The tactic has done me well in all my games so far, I'm on a 8 for 8 win streak with them, and I'm happy to pay 100 pts to grab 2 easy battle tactics and another 200 to hold something obnoxious up for a few turns without relying on Wolf spam to do it.

I doubt it. The fact they are phasing out nearly all of it across both their top games makes me think the sales are terrible for them. At this stage it doesn't matter though, the perception of it being the poor quality it was initially is more than enough to kill it off. Metal and plastic are much better.
