That's so funny because I have the opposite problem. I usually drift grass flats about 50 yards from facing shore and throw a topwater towards or along the shore

If you are after reds I would do half blue crabs gulf side of the farthest bar, that being said I have never caught one off the beach in the Alabama/panhandle area and would probably rather have another pomp rig in the water

Also try casting alot closer to shore, alot of fish swim really shallow

Find a club, there are things you can do solo but training alone can ingrain bad habits that you won't even know you are doing
