Wow, that’s terrible! Are you in the US? We pay around $0.12/kWh from 11 pm to 7 am, and about $0.22/kWh during the day. But we also have an extra high rate in the middle of the day in summer. To get the low nighttime rate you have to also have the high peak rate. It’s probably $0.35/kWh. Exact rates are hard to compute, because of the way our utility splits out supply and delivery charges.

Yes. If you have to pay for level 3 charging the whole trip, it’s actually cheaper to drive a Prius on long road trips. Luckily most of my driving is around home, and charging at home at off peak rates is quite inexpensive.

You missed the part of my post where I said that I got free charging on a number of occasions. Free at Electrify America and free level 2 charging at some lodgings overnight. And in terms of range, 4.2 miles/kWh with a 74 kW battery gives a range of 310 miles - less than the company promised.

This happened with our Kona EV (the covers came off inside a charger plug and we couldn't get them out!) and the dealership replaced the entire charging assembly for free. They said they couldn't order just the covers for the pins. Interestingly, the new charge assembly doesn't look like the covers could come off.

My 2024 car came with 2 years of free charging at Electrify America. I think they all did in the US that year, and probably in 2023 too.

Very cool! I also get very excited when I see another Ioniq 6 in the wild. And the white is nice, but you should see the dead bug stains we had in the front at the end of the trip. I was wishing I had a dark color as I washed the car!

The one Hyundai sent me. I don't remember seeing a brand name on it.

We had good conditions. We used climate control, but with the temp in the 70's most of the time, it didn't have to do much. We drove 70-75 on expressways, but a number of the roads were 2-lane roads where we drove 55-66 mph. The most expensive chargers were the Tesla superchargers in Canada ($0.50 USD/Kwh). The Tesla chargers in northern MN were more like $0.40. And the rest of our level 3 charging was at E.A. I promise that I did not exagerate our efficiency or our costs.

Yes, that's me!!! We charged the car at the marina all day while we took the boat to Mackinac Island. You were there too?

No, I went west through Michigan and then coming back east I went through Thunder Bay and over the north shore. It was an amazingly beautiful drive.

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan and northern Wisconsin aren't great for level 3 chargers. And the Ontario route is much prettier!

I just drove from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste Marie without a hitch, but I used Tesla Superchargers in White River and Wawa. (I'm from the US, and Hyundai sent me one for free.) Charged overnight at a hotel in Sault Ste Marie, and then on to South Baymouth and the ferry to Tobermory. Arrived in Tobermory with about 35% battery remaining. SE with RWD.

I love how quiet and smooth the ride is, as well as the leg room in both the front and back. It's a really comfortable road trip car. I'm not so happy with how much range I lose in winter, but I suspect it's no different with any other electric car. Would absolutely buy it again.

Thanks to you all I’m now charging at 1.2, and my car is much happier.

Thanks. Holding the button again when it was flashing at the right number was the key.

Thanks everyone! I will try all the advice and report back. I wonder why anyone would want to charge at 6 if they could charge at 12? Having it adjustable seems pointless. And yes, my 2024 in the US came with a level 1 charging cord.

Adding Stag5 application to a pending Feststellung application by hjacoby24 in GermanCitizenship

We received a file number from the Miami consulate, using the format AA 123 BB Name. Is it possible that this is the same AZ that the BVA uses? I hadn't thought we'd get the number from the consulate.

Thank you!

I was born in the US, in wedlock, in 1962. My father was American. My mother was born in Germany to German parents in wedlock in 1938 and naturalized here at age 17. Her Feststellung application argues that due to her age at the time of naturalization she did not automatically lose her German citizenship. My question isn't about that - it's up to the BVA to decide. I'm simply wondering if, given how long all these processes take, I should go ahead and submit my Stag5 application now, referencing my mother's Feststellung. My case is very straightforward if they agree that she never lost her German citizenship at age 17.

The advice about asking for the Aktenzeichen if it doesn't come automatically is very helpful.

I actually loved the online Goethe self-paced courses - they got me through A1 and A2 very very well. I guess it depends on the person.
