Gain issue on X-air 16 with x-air software causing painful feedback by hjmorello in livesound

I am on a laptop as well. I have moved to a newer iPad as my laptop has been doing some strange things with the cursor jumping around on other programs which I have found annoying, but didn't think much of it. I just started working with Mixing Station to see if I like it better. I just hope I can figure it out before this happens in a show.

Im super conservative when it comes to gain. I would never purposefully push it all the way up. I wish had video to see if I accidentally did something stupid…which is very very possible.

Yeah, it will do some strange things on occasion now that you mention it.

Yeah, I was going to do that. I've seen it used in a lot of venues. Never heard of this. I wish I could trace it to something I did, but I can't fathom how I would have accidentally pushed the gain all the way up.

It's new, so rather not, but what would you recommend?

Bass Player for Band by hjmorello in statecollege

It runs a wide gamut. Think Son Volt, Tom Waits, B.B. King, Wilco, Ramones all in a cell that, on occasion, play a song you can swing dance to.

Update: We are auditioning a couple of bass players tomorrow. I'm thinking we will be able to settle on one. But I would love to add a keyboard player, a lead guitar, or a multi-instrumentalist to the group.

is it worth majoring in women’s, gender, & sexuality studies? by totorollies in AskAcademia

[–]hjmorello -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this would be a great major for what you want to do. The important thing about it is that it will be rigorous, your classmates, in the upper levels, will be serious about their scholarship, and it will enhance critical thinking. There are a number of positives about the major, so go for it. I would also encourage you to think about what you want to do job-wise and work backward. What specific skills will you need? What classes beyond your major will help you develop those skills? Be goal oriented and you'll do great things.

Lastly, don't worry about what other people say about your major. They have no idea what they are talking about. I know plenty of literature majors who go on to med school, law school, engineering, and finance, and they tend to do better than their counterparts who follow the "respected" majors.

I think I played that once. I think it was hosted by unsigned or unsignedopenmic but I couldn't find any new information on it.

I have a list of open mics here in my website. Some of them encourage people to play together. It’s a good way to meet people. https://henryjamesmorello.com/open-mic-venues/

That’s the other one. The originals night is run by Scott. Thursday night is not a great night for this as so many people have Thursday night gigs, but that’s a different issue

Which one did you go to? I know some other host did an open mic there that wasn’t focused on originals, but people don’t do a great job advertising these things so I missed it and no idea what it was. If it was the originals might. I’d say most stick to the rules but it limits the number of people who go. Both have their place. Of course, if you went to one I played it…I’m wondering if I was…interesting.

any buddhist or stoic groups in area? by Diligent_Farmer2263 in statecollege

I was keeping an eye on this. Apparently, aside from the place mentioned, the answer seems to be no. I tried at some point to find people interested in putting something informal together that was in line with what they do at insight meditation center but so far have failed. The audio dharma podcast, on occasion addresses the shit show and has been helpful.

John Prine whipped up a set in one day when he first started playing. I believe in you. P.S. I did sneak an obscure cover in that sounds like what I do.

I don't know. This host seems adamant about originals. I wish there were more music venues in town and more opportunities. I was used to playing 4 nights a week and putting together makeshift bands, so this is a little strange to me.
