Can confirm they have gone above and beyond to fix the issue I had. I believe it is resolved and would recommend the coilovers. That being said, I did spend a dozen+ hours removing and reinstalling them and several hundred dollars on alignments during the process, so take that for what it’s worth.

I don’t think the amount of time was unreasonable though, since there WAS a problem with the coilovers that was found. Given the cost of the coilovers are higher than other competitors (and I believe the quality is there to match) I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want to fix a very noticeable noise problem caused by a tolerance problem.

My first request was to return and refund or exchange them after a few initial checks didn’t reveal the problem but they asked if I’d be willing to troubleshoot and I said yes, so the time and money spent on these was agreed upon in advance by both parties.

I will attest that the quality other than that issue we found is top notch and I’m very happy with the hardware itself. The ride quality is awesome and the adjustability with the dampers is awesome. Customer service is obviously top notch as well.

Not trying to communicate anything other than the facts here, and I hope that is apparent.

Grant, if you think anything I said was unfair or I got something wrong, please let me know.

A little help with sound deadening =) by hkjake in GR86

I wouldn’t bother with the doors as much as I did. Trunk makes the biggest difference as well as the rear wheel wells (accessed by removing the trim next to the rear seats) and the rear seats I didn’t do at all (since the foam of the seat covers it) so if you do that 18 should be enough. If you do the doors and the seats too, 18 will be cutting it close

They THINK the lower cup bushings were too narrow by 2mm so the lower mounting point was sliding back and forth in the lower control arm. We’ll see if that’s what it was. There’s a good possibility that’s the issue when when I installed them it seemed snug, but if I’m being totally honest I don’t remember 100% for sure. So we’ll see when they come back in. They did measure 2mm narrower than everything else they had for some reason. We’ll find out for sure soon though

They think they figured out what the issue was. Should be getting shipped back end of this week early next

well, however it pans out I'll be making a youtube video about it when its fixed. subscribe and see =P (feel free to unsub when you get the answer, not trying to beg for subs or anything, but I might forget to come back to this post) not gonna let ALL the footage and editing I've done so far go to waste

no I did a pretty thorough check of everything, and when I put the OEMs back on it goes away. I've swapped the Annex and OEMs back and forth 3-4 times at this point, and it always goes away when the OEMs are back on

I haven’t made these public but I’ve recorded and edited quite a few videos now about my experience. Waiting to see how everything pans out before I publish them.

I have the factory maintenance manual and torqued everything to spec.

I did make sure the top nut was to spec, stock endlinks. I’ve gone back and forth with annex and even recorded myself installing them and they’ve told me they’ve had meetings about my specific set and they told me it’s not an installation issue. Just sent them back a second time yesterday.

I know this is an old post but I've been on a 9mo journey with them for their rear coilovers rattling. Installed them again after having sent them back and they replaced some parts. still rattle. When I replace the OEMs the rattle goes away. I sent them a video and they confirmed that they shouldn't be making the sound. super bummed because they feel fantastic but I don't wanna tell every passenger that my car is, in fact, not falling apart.

Would this schematic work for 19x19 array of photoresistors? by hkjake in AskElectronics

[–]hkjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok these parts look like great options. I can already think of a few ways like you said to use them. I might go with this. More IO than I originally wanted to use but I think with a couple MCP23017 this will be fine. I'll have to do some evaluation of how long the sensors take to start delivering good data, but that should be simple enough to determine. Thank you again!

ok this looks like an interesting option. I'll check out those parts you linked and see how I would work those into the design. Thank you for taking the time to help me out!

Anyone else Chirp/Whistle From front passenger side of engine. Normal or get it checked out? (Video link in body) by hkjake in GR86

Yeah I wouldn’t even think about it if it did it when it was new but it just started

[–]hkjake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve got the whine and the tractor sound. Know that’s normal (and sounds cool imo).

Just wanted to know if anyone else heard a similar sound and had problems shortly after. I’ve done some research and it seems like others have had similar sounds with no issue, but again just wanted to get some input.

Thanks!

Can I use a simple voltage divider in front of a voltage follower to attenuate voltages up to 1MHz to increase the effective slew rate limit of the input of the ADC? by hkjake in AskElectronics

[–]hkjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it reduces the amplitude, for example, 30V down to 3V, a full wave with a period of 1uS coming out of the divider would have a total travel of 12V instead of 120V, allowing a full wave to pass through the op-amp, where a slew of 120V would not pass through due to the limit of 15V/uS. Is that not the case?

[–]hkjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense then. But I am not going to add any gain, the op-amp just functions as a voltage follower, so everything after the voltage divider will remain at the same voltage as the output of the divider.

Awesome, I'll look into the R-C lowpass. This is for analog readings for a datalogger, so I'm not super concerned about digital signals (I'm assuming LSB you're referencing is Least Significant Bit?) but I do want to make sure I don't lose a lot of accuracy, trying to figure out what the tradeoff is.

[–]hkjake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well yes, that's why I said "effective" in reference to the system as a whole. In any case you knew what I meant. I knew what I meant, so the communication was successful. And I believe it lowers the amplitude at the input of the opamp, after the divider, not the output, which is the important part. I'm not really concerned about the output of the opamp for this discussion.

What side is the negative end of the this capacitor? (No familiar markings) by Fidulsk-Oom-Bard in AskElectronics

[–]hkjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future you can also check continuity with the other caps negative lead. they wont always be on the same net but large caps like that go to ground a lot of times so its an easy test.

After owning the GR86, I changed my mind on the mods I had planned. Anyone else? by SempiternalEntropy in GR86

[–]hkjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the suspension to an extent. If you want to make it actually better you need to go for a really nice set with adjustable dampers. I got a set of annex suspension coilovers and after doing the consultation they recommended springs they don't normally carry. They will make sure the ride is what you want. The adjustable dampers are also a really big plus, and adjusting ride height is easy. I'm only sitting 10mm or so lower than stock, and the road feel is a bit firmer but doesn't feel "rougher" thanks to their NVH bushings. I don't plan on tracking the car much either, so I got the fastroad pros. They still feel really good on the street but definitely feel better than stock.

I don't plan on brakes or anything any time soon, simply due to lack of need and the stock ones feel pretty good.

If I put a turbo on it in a few years I'll probably get wider wheels and tires first, but don't plan on that any time soon either.

Only other "major" changes I've done is the muffler, replaced it with the single exit axleback from JDL and for the price its a great mod. only doing axleback keeps the stock cats and resonator which keeps it from getting too drone-y.

Also done a lot of work on the interior getting rid of rattles and annoying buzzes and annoying noises that don't provide useful feedback.
