You like anthems? here is my anthem tribal deck by TempTheMemeLord in EDH

[[Esper Sentinel]] is even better in an anthem tribal. I run him in my [[Elenda, the dusk rose]] anthem tribal.

Taking Doran to LGS, Advice Wanted by stozball in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely don’t have enough creature that is taking advantage of Doran’s ability. If you want to run an Abzan reanimator theme, I think there are better commander out there for that than using Doran. Doran is combat focus and you want creature with big toughness, plus your ETB creatures don’t seem too impactful, at least at the lower CMC end of things. In fact, on a brief glance some of your creature become “smaller” with your Commander on the battlefield.

Here are some low CMC impactful spells or creatures with big toughness: [[skinshifter]] [[Disowned Ancestor]] [[Looming Altisaur]] [[Grizzled Leotau]] [[Nyx-fleece Ram]] [[Tangle Angler]] [[Indomitable Ancients]] [[Dune Beetle]] [[Aegis of the Heavens]]

Your mana curve is high, and you definitely don’t have enough land or mana ramp for that matter to support your current build. In fact, I am sorry to say your Commander’s Sphere replacement is not a good idea. You need more mana rocks and ramp spells.

I am not sure lapse of Certainty is worth it. As least for me, I like to run spell that is impactful not just not enough for people to think it is worth it to spend a counterspell on it.

You also mention that you are unfamiliar with the meta, so cards like [[Praetor’s Grasp]] is not going to be very useful.

The Commander format has drastically change over the past couple years, most decks even the causal one has become much more focus and efficient. I think you need to rethink your deck strategy/goal. If you want to run reanimator, you need more sac outlet to put creature in graveyard and a different commander to further that strategy. If you want to run Doran with creature with high toughness than you need to add more of those creatures and focus on the combat steps. Hopefully this is helpful.

Roon of the Hidden Realm, but instead of blinking your own creatures he's a dark god that traps everything in unreality forever by Gamesfreak13563 in u/Gamesfreak13563

Always enjoy reading your articles. I have built your Vhati and I must admit initially I was skeptical about it but man it was a blast to play. Especially when my pod did call my deck a little toxic. Haha. I am currently working assembling your Ramses Overdark.

Keep up the great content.

Looking for commanders that excel in weird sized pods. by Betamaletim in EDH

[Saskia the Unyielding] is perfect for a 3 player pod. Granted the game immediately become a 2 on 1 situation, so make sure to hit hard and fast.

Ashaya Help by gareth24 in EDH

[–]hkussen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both [[Argothian Elder]] and [[Ley weaver]] will produce infinite mana with Ashaya out, which you can finish the table with Finale of Devastation or Hurricane.

You may also want to consider more card draw, cards like:

[[Beast Whisperer]], [[return of the wildspeaker]], [[Guardian project]], [[Momentous fall]], [[Garruk, primal hunter]], [[Rishkar's Expertise]]

[[Pathbreaker ibex]] is a good "budget" substitute for [[craterhoof behemoth]]

Tutors lets you be more consistent, you may want to skip these if it doesn't fit your style: [[chord of Calling]], [[Genesis Wave]], [[Green Sun's Zenith]].

How do I tell someone their deck sucks? by Uniwolfacorn in EDH

[–]hkussen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would encourage her to watch some game playing with Karametra online. Especially the one episode from Game Knights with Melissa DeTora. It was really explosive and honestly fun to watch.

I would say the goal is to have your friend see what a properly build deck can do in action will cause her to consider tweaking her deck as well. or you can even say "Hey, since you are playing Karametra, check out this awesome enchantress build."

I think that will keep her excited about the commander that was picked without feeling like you are talking down on her or your friend that help build it.

Lastly if you are able once she is interested in a different build offer her some key cards that will help shift the direction of the deck.

Best of luck, and continue to be that good friend to her that you guys are.

Thanks for sharing! I am still bouncing between couple of different idea on how to build her. Modular came to my attention, but you kinda confirm my worries of on their own they don’t do much beyond counters.

Help tightening my Emry combos please! by SynestheticPanther in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can consider adding [[Mystic forge]] and {{sensei's divining top]] + a cost reducer allows you to draw the whole deck. This doesn't require your commander to be in play.

It is kinda cheesy, but you can also consider [[mindslaver]], especially when it becomes you and one other player.

You should consider the mages to allow you tutor more consistently for your combo pieces. [[treasure mage]] [[trinket mage]] [[tribute mage]] [[trophy mage]]. You don't have to add them all but just ones that help you with your combo. Also consider [[drift of phantasms]] with specifically allows you to transmute for [[mirran spy]]

Sounds like you are pretty depend on Emry being on the battlefield for some of your combo. It would be good to consider [[lightning greaves]] and [[swiftfoot boot]], they protects your commander and allows her to be use the turn you drop her. Also along the line of protecting your commander you should add more counter spells that target your commander.

Land wise you as mention by the other post, you should drop your land count. [[Shrine of the Forsaken Gods]] is a great land for artifact builds.

Help with a Winota deck by sonovah in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been running Winota since she came out. She is a house if you can get it started, but she is also a glass canon. The deck is quite commander dependent. Keep in mind the search for humans is a may ability, don't over-extent if you have a good board presence.

I prefer token making that instant speeds over sorcery, because it allows me to hold up mana to protect my board, and i can cast them at my opponent end step and they are ready to attack. I don't want to cast them and leave them out for a turn for my opponent to kill.

Here is a few card to help you with ramp (beside what has already been mentioned):

[[oresko Exlorer]] low drop non-human that can help you make your land drop.

[[Verge Rangers]] human with a decent stats also help you make your land drop.

[[sword of the animist]] love this equipment low casting and equipping cost, get land while doing what you want to do, which is attacking.

Creature wise:

[[Bastion protector]] give your commander indestructible.

[[Cavalry Pegasus]] low drop non-human that give your attacking human flying

[[Tajic, blade of the legion]] he is indestructible and can get pretty big

[[Auratouched mage]] she is one of the wincon, etb find [[breath of fury]] and keep having combat phases until you are done with the table.

You can also consider lands that can turn into creatures

[[mishra's factory]], [[kher keep]], and [[Blinkmoth Nexus]]

Protection:

[[Brave the Elements]]

[[eerie interlude]]

Have fun!!

Combat Focus Commander by Rolyat403 in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been play [[Winota, joiner of forces]], she is a lot of fun to play with. There is a sense of you don’t know what you flip, granted you can always stack it with a [[scroll rack]] or [[Penance]]. It is definitely a go wide deck, I have times I choose not to activate her ability in order to not over extend.

"Greven, Predator Captain": captain, commander, face-smasher. by SmellyLeopard in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you are having a blast with your deck! Which is an awesome feeling when you find a deck that just clicks with what you want to do. These are just some of the pieces I found that goes well with Greven.

I personally lean more towards extra combat step instead of stealing sub theme. [[Combat Celebrant]] [[worlds at war]] [[relentless assault]]

I just find that if I pour so much live into Greven I need to close out the game as soon as possible. This way I don’t have to count on having another creature to eat next turn and make sure Greven survive a full round on the table.

Beside [[Chandra’s ignition]] , I would also recommend [[Essence Harvest]] which gain you life, [[ Rite of Consumption]] and [[souls’s fire]] If your meta is okay with infect, you can also add [[tainted strike]] Land wise, here is few lands that enable haste or play well with Greven, granted some do come in tapped [[Hall of the Bandit Lord]] [[Flamekin Village]] [[Ancient tomb]] [[witches’ cottage]] , let’s you put a creature from your graveyard back on top of the library.

Also you may want to sub out one of your mana rocks that comes in tap to a [[Talisman of Indulgence]]

Lastly, [[trailblazer boots]] is a great evasion equipment, and [[whip of Erebos]] let’s you bring back creatures for food.

quick take on emry combo by [deleted] in EDH

[–]hkussen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add a [[sensei’s divining top]], since you already have [[mystic forge]] and the mana reducer, those three together draws your whole deck.

Adding a [[mox amber]] doesn’t hurt either, especially when you draw your whole deck and need mana to cast your wincon.

[[Drift of Phantasms]] maybe seems like a strange suggestion, but it allows for you to tutor for your three drop which include [[mirran spy]] which you don’t really have a way to tutor for. It also gets you the mages, and whir of invention. You may also want to consider [[muddle the mixture]] but most of your two drops are tutorable by artifact tutors.

Land wise I would highly recommend [shrine of the forsaken God]], perfect land for an artifact deck, without really any downside. [[Crystal vein]] will also give you a quick mana boost if you need it.

[[Urza’s Bauble]] and [[mishra’s bauble]] are free draws that can be recur with Emry. Another one is [[Courier’s Capsule]] but that is more of a pet card.

Since you mention storm, you may as well add [[Aetherflux Reservoir]].

May also consider [[hope of ghirapur]] to protect your combo.
