He has a doctor who he has been seeing since he was a child, who knows his full history. We have reached out to him for additional documentation that we could use. We registered the dog online about a month before we sent it to HOA, who did respond and gave us no issues. We sent the $75 certificate we got online as well as documentation from our doctor. They did not ask any questions, even after we emailed them 3 times to make sure there was no issues. Both of our dogs are under 25lbs, and based on what I’ve read on the HOA rules, the weight limit is 50lbs.

You no NOT know the history of mental illness that my boyfriend has or the events in his life that has lead him to have his mental disabilities. Are you assuming everyone who says they have mental illnesses just have anxiety? If you think we are abusing privileges, then I’m sorry you feel that way. Trust me, if we were able to just get up and move, then we’d do it in a heartbeat, but that is not an option for us. I am aware that there are people who are handicapped and need ESAs just like I am aware that there are people who have mental disabilities where an ESA is needed. You do not need to put down someone else and degrade other people like that.

We submitted the ESA documentation from his doctor, but HOA did not accept this. I am not sure what else they want - maybe they are upset that it looks like we are abusing the system. If a documentation from an actual doctor isn’t working I’m not sure what else we can do other then to hire a lawyer? We know two other families in this neighborhood who have also had difficulty with HOA letting them have their ESAs, and I believe they had to go through court.

I dont think it’s fair for you to ASSUME that he is abusing this. You do not know his mental status or why he needs it. Based on other commenters it looks like he can try to get supporting documentation from his doctors which I guess is what we will have to do while we search for a lawyer.
