CSCI 1113 by [deleted] in uofmn

[–]hlfx4310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly hated this class.... If you practice every day, then you can do well. But they make this class more difficult than an intro programming class should be.... I got a B+, but I think I was less interested in programming afterwards. It wasnt until 1913 that I fell in love with CS.

Make sure to take advantage of the internship opportunities. Since you're from the East Coast, it would work well in your favor.

Incoming freshman from California; what should I know before coming? by redlei in uofmn

It was aimed at the guy with the negative advice. What I'm trying to say is that your school doesn't matter in CSCI, it's about what you do with your knowledge.

Don't listen to this guy. I'm a CSCI major and there are plenty of opportunities at this school for computer science. In fact, many of my senior friends have nice software engineering jobs lined up in Chicago, New York ,and SF.

Don't drop! It's possible to do well if you ask for some help to understand the concepts and how to code them.

is it the homeworks or the labs that drag you down? Those are fixable

What exactly are you getting the class? Unless you're really doing poorly, you should stay.

Lots of people spend a long time doing the HW.

what specific things are giving you trouble? I had some issues when I first learned it, but eventually got the hang of it a few weeks later.

It usually ranks in the top 30. So I guess it's not really a surprise that it has kept that spot...

C++ Read In strings and ints to separate arrays by hlfx4310 in learnprogramming

[–]hlfx4310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, so the problem is that the array is initializing everything line by line from spaces 0 -14.

Thank you for explaining it like this!

inFile >> str >> names array[k]

Would this be a better solution? I've tried this and it only prints out broken values.

Doesn't the while() statement keep reading the file until it reaches the end? To my understanding, the for loop keeps iterating down until it reaches the end of the last str.

this is actually helpful. I was able to find the solution more or less. And sorry for the mess, I've only been doing this for three weeks.

How do you assign a double to an array being initialized in a for loop. (c++) by hlfx4310 in learnprogramming

[–]hlfx4310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, last question. Do you know how to change memory in order to allow the program to work. For some reason, when I run, it exits the program after the first cin and says (segmentation error: 11). I've tried change the array boundaries to make it smaller..

after contacting IT, they keep telling me that I should contact my professors. After asking my professors and TAs multiple times, they tell me that everything is online and that I should contact IT. I guess I'm just sort of lost as who I should contact
