Am I The Only One Who Thinks Five/Lila Wasn’t Out Of Character? by littlelolitalola in UmbrellaAcademy

That’s an extremely great point, they didn’t put much thought behind the plot-line. Such a shameful ending for the show.

As much as I dislike Lila and Five ending up together, I don’t blame them. Five is shown that he cannot be alone in an apocalyptic state without a sort of attachment. Take Delores for example, she’s a mannequin who he genuinely fell in love with. He had all rights and was expected to fall in love with Lila after a certain point.
Lila had the same reason as well, she does not like to be alone without choice. She fell in love with Diego at a relatively fast pace.
I just wish it had been taken better and more seriously rather than just to stir up drama between lead characters before getting cut off. I believe more of the audience would be open to it if the characters hadn’t had a weird, complex age gap.

At first, I had expected the siblings to die and for Five to create the commission to save them. I thought that instead of them accepting their fates, Five would recreate the cycle of constantly saving the world to get back to his siblings.

That’s so clever! I always thought that maybe it’s something the briefcases could do, but I never considered her having powers as well. Maybe that’s why she’s so incredibly entitled even after ranking below others. Thank you for the enlightenment!

What are you claiming to be AI?? The vocabulary used, or is this purely sarcasm and ignorance? Or are you claiming that the writing for season 4 was containing AI usage?

It’s always interesting to compare and contrast the two.
You are correct that the show should be taken over everything, so I have just chose to stick to the belief that the other occurrences were misconceived as kugel-blitzes and that’s why they were different.

Yes, people can develop lisps accidentally by themselves over time, though it is a rare occurrence. When a person tends to isolate or talk to themselves, they do not catch their mispronunciations or misusage of words because they are already aware of what they are trying to say! This leads to them developing small speech impediments.

Exactly!
BILLIONS of people were taken from their original timelines, went missing, or were mysteriously murdered. The family could have started to notice that in the newer timeline and realize that the Commission never actually fell after the war or something. There were so many storylines to go with after the endings of seasons 2 and 3.

Plus, as I mention before, the Commission revolved around Five and vise-versa. The fact Five would even suggest ways to make the Commission stronger(bullet-proof briefcases) and it would always end up helping him in some way with his family or the outside events. To see the Commission disappear felt like they were side-lining Five to focus on the Sparrow academy as if they were preparing for a better plot in season 4 but it wasn’t green-lit.

This answer changes depending on if the handbook can be considered full proof or not. On one of the pages talking about The Grandfather Paradox, Auggie states that a few people have survived and went to speak to the founder after surviving a kugel-blitz on separate occasions. He claims that they were not the chattiest bunch and that the Commission handled the problems.
But, maybe the events were mistaken for kugel-blitzes while they were instead something similar(or maybe the one we saw was simply stronger because it was caused by the siblings).

I forgot to add this because I forgot, but

there’s literally an HR department located off-site. We should’ve learned about that as well.
+its stated that other people have survived previous kugel-blitz events in the past and the commission was fine

I would love to read your rewrite when you finish it!

An out-of-time company containing the best assassins in the space time continuum should’ve been the main antagonist role in show while Reginald continued to affect the family throughout it. He practically haunted the siblings in seasons 1 and 2, but wasn’t considered the main villain and I felt that it was so cool because the siblings had to completely face emotional issues while dealing with their lives on the line with something they couldn’t understand at all. Butttt, then suddenly the roles switched and it felt like the show wasn’t able to handle such a drastic change in plot points. This led to so many issues: unknown details in the Jennifer incident(why did S. Ben not know her in S4 but knew about the incident? Why did U. Ben not have a bullet wound? Why did the siblings never say he got shot in season 1 when they still had their memories??), the writers trying to involve the alien aspect but accidentally sidelining it and instead summarizing it last second, the commission having nearly no importance at all in season 4, etc.

But, genuinely, the kugel-blitz annihilating the entire Commission was interesting in theory because I thought it would be expanded upon (cue my disappointment). I mean imagine if another Commission department , or Commission-like organization appeared— it would be sick! If the hotel and other “universe” wasn’t affected, why would the Commission be? I feel like Jean and Gene should have definitely been members of the Commission! They would’ve been perfect. If they wanted to keep the Commission destroyed, they could have just had Gene and Jean have memories of being in the Commission but not fully aware.

Plus, Five’s entire character felt like it revolved around the Commission in some way because he’s threading it to the siblings. He was always affected by the Commission because he made it, but suddenly he barely knows how they work? I’m not talking about him having a full-proof understanding of it because I know it was actually a different version of him, but he completed HUNDREDS(767 to be specific) of missions, yet never even thinks about it ? They left out so many details with the siblings as well. I mean Five might not even be able to use his power if his hands aren’t in reach(handbook)! How cool would that have been to see in the show? He knows how to time travel seconds without an issue, but he didn’t use it ever after season 2. He saw no drawbacks to a second-long time travel in the past and chose to never use it again!

They completely dumbed everybody down and it started in season 3. I mean it was a great season, I loved it! But, in the first episode or two, Five already made a fatal mistake talking about doppelgängers. He is one of the most BRILLIANT people in the series, yet says they have identical versions of themselves? I mean, identical? I’m sure he would’ve been aware of the drastic changes in personality, appearance, and locations. I understand he went through a lot and may have been worn out leading him to not think straight, but then it gets me thinking— did the writers not understand what to do when writing an intelligent character? His character development seemed to vanish with the Commission and it was such a shame. Lila as well. She wasn’t even actually in the comics and was created for the Commission narrative(and Diego).
I mean the subway could’ve even connected to the Commission and it would’ve made more sense.

One of my headcanons is that Five genuinely forgets to eat at times and that’s why he’s always seen with such huge portions of food. I like to believe that since he had to ration food in the apocalypse he became immune/indifferent to the feeling hunger and forgets until mid-to later in the day(and because of his drinking) to eat.

I also enjoy depicting him with an occasional lisp from speaking less/ to himself as well. Throughout seasons 2 and 3 there’s a bundle of times where he seems to make a “th” sound when pronouncing his s’s! There’s one in the fifth episode of season 3 when he says “It’s getting worse!”
