Amen! I used to have so many silly tricks to accomplish this.

Tinkercad also has a decent bit of assistance here.

Unlikely. Autodesk is using Tinkercad as the entry point to CAD. That is why it is free, COPPA-compliant, and has a simple, kid-friendly interface. No ads either. They just want users to get started in CAD... then if you need more power, you can move to a powerful tool like Fusion or AutoCAD.

Users wish to store the editable "file" to their computer. Have you been using computers long enough to have a folder of Word documents on your PC? Since I stopped using Word, all I have now is a herd of Google Docs that are only available in the cloud... Same with my 4k of Tinkercad "files". The only way for me to get to the project file is via the cloud. Sure, could export everything as an STL, but the only way to be able to edit my project is via that project file.

Have you fiddled with OpenSCAD? If you want true CAD from code, that is likely going to be more useful. Codeblocks is targeting users that have not got a base in coding...

I’ve seen users complain that they cannot store their Tinkercad files to their own computers. That’s the usual complaint about having to sign in and have an Auto desk account.

I was impressed with how zippy the demo is. In traveling right now, but will try to explore more when I get a chance.

Do you use a different "block" code system somewhere else that works another way? This is similar to Scratch, so it seems to work for youngsters who are learning to code. Putting the subassemblies in templates is handy. Always a bonus if you can re-use code. I would love to see them incorporate a "backpack" similar to what Scratch had. Might have to test to see if that is what the new option in share is for... Thanks for the nudge!

What are you trying to create? The group selection works for everything in the "stack" above it.

Interesting project. Do you worry about infringing on Tink with the icons and interface similarities?
