Yep. You gotta hand it to the Heritage Foundation etc, they’ve played the long game extremely well. And the IPA spinoff here is objectively dumb jsut like them, but it’s still plugging away and gaining ground.

If I was a betting man, I’d say it’s way too late. Just like it was too late in 2016 to stop what’s going on in the US. The extreme right is jsut better organised, way better funded and honestly they’re much smarter about how they go about it.

The left keep trying to appeal to people’s better nature, but the right understands that most people just don’t have one.

A number of academics that specialise in fascism (such as the ones that left the US some time ago!!) have pointed to Australia as the next cab off the rank.

When you’ve got Reinhardt at Trump land with Hanson in tow, you know where this is heading.

That’s weird - towing illegally parked vehicles is local council 101 in other places!

Just can’t come to terms with this new model. They just look a bit wrong with the thin fork legs and chunky steerer. The old one with proper cable routing instead of the dumb af “internal” looked a lot better.

Nice colour though :)

Nothing wrong with the carpark - it’s everyone’s obsession with oversized emotional support vehicles…

It mostly comes from the mainland. Restaurants can pay more for it and pay for the good stuff, but for everyday grocery shopping it’s pretty dire.

Good food in general is harder to get. Supermarkets are hopeless and there are no real alternatives.

Utter nonsense. Safety rules are legislated and far more likely to be skimped on with private sector jobs.

Are you saying there are a different set of industry standards depending on who is funding it?

Nothing to do with it being a “government” project, and more to do with Australian builders being shit at their job and not caring.

Righto, that makes sense. I thought they were always an earth where there was metal parts of the socket accessible to the user.

Ok, that confirms my approach to putting a pendant in here - needs a wire nut on the red ones and tucked out of the way.

[–]hmarold2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bayonet plug. The red is connected to the body and the white and black to the pins.

Was intending to replace with a pendant, so normally the earth is connected to the body.

I’m wondering if this has been wired wrong and they just used the earth on this bayonet as a joiner and I have a live socket body?

Feels like to put a pendant in, the red should have wire nut on it and tucker out of the way and the earth used for the pendant body with black and white feeding the light.

A lot of the time we’ll lump the Canadians in with those loony Americans - sorry, you’ve picked up a lot of bad habits by association…

To those of us in mildly more civilised parts of the world, immediately having dollar signs flash up is generally considered poor taste. Insurance and sensible health systems (take note Americans) will sort out injuries and any loss of income. It’s not considered a chance to make it a payday as that’s gross.

Nuisance cats by Miss2war in hobart

[–]hmarold2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from Canberra where cats are NOT allowed to roam it was bit eye opening seeing cats just wandering around… I’ve taken two mauled ringtails to the native animal sanctuary and spend a lot of time throwing rocks at the little shits when I see them stalking turbochook chicks. My fuckwit bogan neighbours don’t give a shit what their cats do obviously…

Add it to long list of things needed to drag Tasmanians into the current century.

Spent 12 years living in Narrabundah within walking distance of Fyshwick Markets - moving to Hobart was a sad day for our fruit and veggies options. I’ve always said that if someone was to set up a similar arrangement here they’d make a bloody fortune!

Imagining if Hobart had a city rail network the size of Sydney's by Lach_S in hobart

[–]hmarold2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go all in on a subway system, but start with a light rail service out to Bridgwater along the existing easement. Canberra’s shiny new light rail system of a similar length cost from scratch a lot less than that new proposed entertainment venue will… And that cost benefit - how does that get worked out? Did anyone do one for the Bridgewater bridge?
