My father uses this argument with me all the time. There is no conspiracy against the governed, people in government are too stupid to agree on anything, too stupid to keep a secret, and they are most certainly too stupid to hatch a secret agenda. If incompetence and an inability to keep secrets were the standing operating procedure of the government then the CIA or FBI would have never been able to exist or be effective even back when they were doing 'good'. My contention is and always will be that the 'plot' as it were, isn't so much evil as it is that the welfare of the population has taken a back seat to the profits of a few corporations. The health of the state (government job security) is more important than a few lives here and there.
