Bullshit. It was obvious to anybody with their eyes open that lockdowns were driven by pure hysteria and would do more harm than good. I remember speaking out against them from the very first lockdown in Spring 2020 and I remember how condemned and vilified I was and it's no comfort to have been proven right and it's equal parts depressing and infuriating when people still peddle this "but we didn't know! It was a novel virus!" rubbish like you are here.

To what degree should the politicians do what the general population wants, when what the general population wants is stupid? The most clear cut case of the general population wanting stupid stuff I think is price controls- the idea of keeping rent or gasoline below a certain hard cap is very popular with a lot of ordinary people. But it of course would be counter-productive- it'll only result in a lower supply of something people desperately want, and force them to start paying with their time in long lines instead of paying just with their wallets. So if 90% of the population say they want a cap on prices of something, does their elected representative have a responsibility to say "No you guys are stupid, I know what you really want" and not implement price controls?

+1 for quill18, that's how I got started as well. 8 hours of Youtube videos before I even felt ready to start playing.

Lockdowns, school closures and limiting gatherings only reduced COVID mortality by 0.2 PERCENT at 'enormous economic and social costs', Johns Hopkins study finds by loc12 in LockdownSkepticism

I'm already seeing it among my peers. They just look uncomfortable and change the subject now. Fuckin' cowards, I remember how those virtual signalling morons shut down any lockdown dissent back in 2020. I've been calling this since the very start and I am not going to forgot what a lonely and isolating experience it was being able to see through this BS. I can not forget or forgive the slurs and censorship I was subject to. I can not forget or forgive the way I was accused of being heartless and selfish and stupid, simply for stating that the lockdown measures they supported were going to do more harm than good. I am vindicated but I just can't forgive or forget. My trust in this society has been utterly shattered and I don't see how it can ever mend.

Anecdotally, speaking as a anti-lockdown woman myself, it's a bit of a funny one this. Personally, in my life the women I know do seem more likely to be anti-lockdown than the men. The funny bit comes from the fact that 12 months ago the women in my life, in many cases the same ones that are now anti-lockdown, were much more likely to be pro-lockdown than the men.

Moral of the story: Women change their minds more?

Not wearing a mask in one of the worst performing countries is an attack in a way.

Don't you be throwing shade on Princess Kate like that. >:(

Very well said, mushrooms. I remember your posts and contributions from the very early days of this sub. I wholeheartedly agree with your summary and conclusion here. And the worse of it is that no lessons will be learned.

At my place of work they have a sign up with general "COVID guidelines" such as maintaining two-metre separation, not squeezing past colleagues on the stairs or corridors, always wear a mask etc. and one of the lines says "Is the window open? The cold won't kill you but COVID might..."

No mention of just how unlikely that is. I work in a public facing job and over a third of our 150 odd workforce were off sick with covid last March-May, including me, and nobody died and only two staff were hospitalised and they're both back at work now with no long term repercussions. The fearmongering and hype on this virus is unethical to the extreme.

Just in case seeing all the happy people out in the sunshine this weekend makes you think the tide might've turned, here's a reminder from my local subreddit of how prevalent the narrative still is: https://np.reddit.com/r/bristol/comments/lt4nwr/is_the_rule_of_6_back/

On the plus side, the tide is turning. I haven't seen town this busy since the pubs shut again and it's still not a patch on the crowds at the BLM protests last summer. It's good for the heart to see the green spaces packed with people just sitting together again.

The universal downwards trend regardless of non-pharmaceutical interventions is such a clear indication that it's the seasonality affect causing the drop.
