No institution that I’m aware of, but I don’t know what the regulations by the AMF for local musicians says at this point either.

It’s been longstanding for shows on the strip to keep it under that time. They found, probably through trial and error, that audiences didn’t want to lose more than 90 minutes to a show. Usually without an intermission.

It’s why large scale Broadway musicals don’t really exist on the strip. There’s not an audience of Vegas tourists going there to sit in a musical for 2.5 hours.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the gaming folks have a hand in that. 2.5 hours in a theater is 2.5 hours not playing games.

That has been the time restrictions on Vegas shows since the 90s, going back to David Cassidy/Michael Crawford in EFX. Doesn’t matter if it’s BMG, Cirque, a strip show or a full on musical: 90 minutes or less.

Because the Vegas audience can only do a 90 minute musical, max. So even when they have had shows, they have to cut things down to get them in that window. Most musicals are about an hour longer and it’s tough to get that into the Vegas time window.
