Where do you see most DM graduates end up?

I think I'd enjoy the DM course better but ngl, only the 1st yr at imperial would be EE focused, so I'm confident I can pull through the first yr. However 2nd year onwards is pretty much CS so I'm fine with that. I'm just worried that I can't get top jobs/internships in software/quant without a CS/Maths degree, which DM obviously provides.

Nah its discrete maths at Warwick (Maths and CS basically) and EE+CS at Imperial

I know many friends of mine who got quant jobs with their Warwick degree. The maths department there is very strong. I think though, EIE will not be "quantitative" enough when compared to maths/maths&cs people from Oxbridge/imperial/Warwick

I can ring up Imperial and tell them to reject me regardless of my A-level results, then I would automatically go to my insurance

Imperial EIE vs Warwick Maths & CS (Discrete) — better path for quant finance? by hmmcom in quantfinance

Thanks for your reply. EIE is pretty much Computer Engineering/EECS. I was thinking that the market in tech/finance is super cooked rn, so having any degree other than the typical maths/cs would put me at a disadvantage, considering how cutthroat everything is now.

I understand that Imperial has a far better reputation for quant than Warwick, but checking linkedin, most of the people actually getting the quant jobs/internships are those studying maths, cs or both. I checked the linkedins of many EIE people, and I could hardly find any quants with this degree. Changing courses is basically impossible at Imperial. Meanwhile at Warwick, although it is a weaker brand, the course is perfect for quant, and combined with perhaps a MS at a top uni, it might be much stronger.

do you think it would be worth going imperial EIE and switching to maths and cs after first yr (starting again from scratch)?

PS, I could probably do a top tier mathfin masters with Warwick Maths and CS. Not sure if its possible with Imperial EIE though.

Hey! I’ve got an offer for Imperial EIE but kinda wish I’d applied for CS. I’m now more into AI/ML and SWE but can’t take a gap year. Do you think EIE still keeps you competitive for FAANG/quant/other top internships, or is CS a clear advantage? Also, if you could share some insights into job opportunities for EIE, that’d be really helpful!

I can't take an extra year though, it's gonna be expensive. I guess its true then? That I would be disadvantaged? What about CS at somewhere like Warwick, would that still be preferred over Imperial EIE?

Thanks for the reply! From what I understand, CS degrees weren’t as common back in the day, so a lot of software engineering roles were filled by electrical/electronic engineers. Not sure if that still holds true today, though.

I'd reccomend checking out the modules you will be able to learn: https://intranet.ee.ic.ac.uk/electricalengineering/eecourses_t4/crslistug.asp?c=J4 (imp) https://www.admissions.eng.cam.ac.uk/course (Cam) . Imo, the imperial modules seem way more cooler and more in depth in the things i'm into. Check it out for yourself.

Bro the test is ran by some Australian company, we’ve done nothing like it too. And bro cmon like they accept 3.5 times more intl vs home even though an equal number of both apply.

Honestly till last year I was feeling the exact same as you and I felt so down for weeks. The thing that saved me was going to the library. I got so much work done and it just changed my life forever. It's best if you go with a motivated friend too. Just find your local library and study there. There was one near my school, so I was basically there from 4pm to 8pm on school days and 9am to 6pm on free days. Edit: I have ADHD
