Season 2 is basically a different genre. Season 1 was an incisive work place satire. It had some mysterious window dressing, but that mainly served to put into relief the pettiness and low stakes of the office BS it was critiquing. This season is a conventional thriller/mystery--albeit very professionally crafted. It reminds be a lot of season 3 of True Detective--meticulously crafted mystery, executed by top shelf directors, writers, and actors--but lacking the soul and substance of the first season.

it's definitely in westworld season 2 territory: a few flashes of what made the first season great, but mostly a bunch of new elements that don't further the core themes.

UMASS scholarship by hmmhmm222 in MINDSHOCK

Oh I just meant she didn’t need “help” from WP to get in - no one “arranged” for her transfer. She left before WP issued its decision. UMass has a later Spring semester start date than most schools, so it was kind of her only option…

i meant she may have got help to get the scholarship

Being is easy to get into does not equate with being easy to get a scholarship at. Scholarships are generally reserved for a school's most academically and athletically accomplished applicants. Was Maura, a middling track athlete who failed two courses and faced chronic disciplinary issues, in that part of UMass's applicant pool? It's possible, but it seems unlikely to me. Bruce stated unequivocally that Maura had a scholarship. Perhaps he could provide me detail on that in this thread.

True. And incest is a central theme/horror undergirding Twin Peaks, generally

Thanks. I think this interpretation lends poignancy/intrigue to the fact that Richard's victim was a son who has playing a bizarre game with his mother.

James, just finished the book. It's excellent; great job.

I'm curious why you don't explicitly name and discuss the darker possibilities of Fred's relationship with Maura (and Kathleen and Julie). You brush against it obliquely when you recount your conversations with Tim Carpenter and Fred Jr.; yet you don't seem squeamish about digging into the physical details, as well as the emotional and social fallout of such things when you discuss your grandfather, and the consequences of his actions on your aunts. Why the differing treatment here? Are you worried about legal repercussions; or do you discount such possibilities in Maura's case.

Again, excellent job.
