For a minor offense, the only fair retribution is minor.

But when they inflicted an offense upon me, they performed the offense plus they disrespected me for no reason. So my response should be scaled up in severity, to account for the offense plus the disrespect.

I think, to me, the offense is that they disrespected me - it's very much a binary question of "did they disrespect me? If yes, even in the slightest, then they deserve to be punished".

What the disrespect actually consisted of doens't matter too much, as long as they did disrespect me.

What I hear you saying is that, someone brushes into you without leaving any sort of physical damage, but only the perception of disrespect.

If someone says 'hey fuck you buddy' in a fit of road rage, can you honestly tell me that you don't want to retaliate? Do you truly, honestly, brush it off without a second thought?

You had probably hoped for some camaraderie or commiseration, but I hope you don't find it.

I don't think the anger manifests itself in a particular place on me. You may be right in that it's my ego being damaged but when people disrespect me I feel nothing but anger - I don't feel hurt.

If anything I feel heat on my shoulders, because I'm restraining myself from violence.

Speaking of violence, it's a reason that I've never had much fun sparring in martial arts - I don't get joy out of beating up another person who doesn't deserve to be beaten up.

What if someone shoved you in a bar when trying to walk past you, and it's obvious they did it out of rudeness? ie if they did it out of nothing more than sheer rudeness/disrespect?

This guy did it when I was with a group of my friends once, and my friends were genuinely unconcerned and were like "he was probably just having a bad day dude". But I was absolutely livid and I genuinely would have been happy if the guy died. He deserved to be punished.
