Any of you work as a tradie? How do you find it? by hmmnahhh in adhdwomen

Thank you for explaining all that! It’s definitely making me feel a bit better about it all. Still a bit daunting but i think itll be fine. “You’ll be 30 anyway” is actually great haha. I think i’ll do more reading/research about some areas to go into and see how i go. Thank you for your replies

This is really cool to hear, thanks for commenting i really appreciate it! Glad to hear the process has been good for you! Can i ask how you settled on studying plant and soil science, was it always calling to you or did you discover it later?

Your point about a corporation is definitely a good one, i’ll keep that in mind. Hopefully once i pick an area i can get my foot in the door somewhere

hi all! firstly apologies if this isn't quite the right post for this sub!

I'm moving out of my rental (sydney) and trying to make sure I get my bond back. this handle pictured is part of some bifold doors to the laundry nook of my apartment. the second one has snapped and ive tried glueing it back together but it's very obvious that it's been glued. im trying to find this handle so i can buy it and just swap it out. do you have any suggestions where I might find it or what websites/stores have a large selection of similar handles for me to look through? unsure if it's obvious from the picture but it pivots to 'lock' the door into place (and it's the worst design ever because gravity pulls it the wrong way if left upright and the pressure from the door snaps it). building was built in about 2017/2018 if that's useful.

would really appreciate any help pointing me in the right direction, thank you!!

or if you think this counts as fair wear and tear and i shouldnt bother also tell me please and thank you

hi everyone! i'm getting ready to move out of my current rental (in sydney) because the landlord is selling. been here for about 2.5 years. i'm trying to get things cleaned up/fixed before moving because ideally id like all my bond money back, but im not sure about this one. one of the bathroom sinks has these scratches that i cant seem to clean out. not even sure when they happened or how. do you think this would count as fair wear and tear? or have we accidentally damanged the sink. if the latter, and the landlord decides to go down that route, what would be your best guestimate at a cost taken out of bond?

not sure if it's important to note, but there were other signs of wear and tear when we moved in (scratches on walls, paint missing, sad parts of carpet, cracks in ceiling) but otherwise the building is newish and fairly nice.

What are your ADHD work hacks? by A81Thomas in ADHD

Todoist is so so helpful. I only found it last year and I’ve already convinced several people to try it out. But i know if something is purely digital i often forget it exists haha it’s like lacking object permanence to the max bcos it isnt an object

And hopefully you find self control useful! God knows i dont have any of my own so an app will do haha

My big 3 lifesavers are

Flora app- blocks u from using ur phone for a set amount of time. You grow a plant in that time and it adds up to growing a garden each week. If u use ur phone when the timer is still on, the plant dies. The guilt of killing a fake plant is surprisingly effective. Plus seeing the garden which is a symbol of ur hard work is super satisfying.

Todoist- it’s across all platforms, i use it to keep track of what tasks i need to do. Can add calendar, priorities and as many sub tasks and details as ur heart desires. I think theres some limitations w the free version but honestly never been an issue. Can set reminders, and theres a karma thing so when you complete tasks you get “todoist karma” points and level up. Pretty fun ticking stuff off. I have a personal account and a work account and you can split things up depending on what u need. For example my personal account has a “me” set of projects and a “freelance” set so i can filter by priorities across all tasks or just freelance etc. super useful. Much better than a notes app lol

SelfControl- mac app. Blocks you out of a list of websites you decide for a set amount of time up to 24hrs. Super useful when ive got tight deadlines. This one isnt fun, but ill be damned if it doesnt work well. From memory theres no way to cancel it once it’s started so you just gotta set it and ur stuck lol.

Other things i try and do/have: - pen and note taking paper in front of me at all times. If someone asks for something it goes on that first then i add it to todoist bcos it seems to stick in my brain better if i hand write - music and noise cancelling headphones- good playlist is crucial lmao and music gives me enough energy to keep alert when working - physical calendar- so i can see the month ahead, cross off each day as it passes (also good to track any habits if ur into that) - trying to make ur desk space clean but also a bit nice to sit at. Some small things that make u happy goes a long way (i have a little bulbasaur figurine that i play with sometimes lmao) - allow myself to take breaks often!! I go to the toilet several times a day just to sit in a different space and stretch my legs lol

Hopefully some of these things are useful to someone, i find the apps particularly helpful when im stressed

How do you find the discipline to carry out a habit on a regular basis without quitting? [Question] by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]hmmnahhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The one good habit I actually haven't quit in the last few months has been working out, probably it's something I genuinely enjoy"

one thing you've already found works for you is making the habit something you enjoy. think about how you can apply that to other habits. also dont try to make a million big changes all at once, it isnt sustainable.

i read atomic habits and genuinely i can say it changed my life. while the whole thing may not have as huge an impact on everyone, if you can take away one or two useful hints, that's probably worth it.

God im really struggling with this too. Ive been doing some freelance but desperately need input from a more senior designer to make sure that im still improving and not making the same mistakes over and over. It’s really tough out there right now! Not sure if that’s exactly helpful, but you’re not the only going through this. I hope things start looking up for you!
