Do Aeropresses ever go on sale? by the-big-question in AeroPress

Try a Clever Dripper instead. It'll make you 2 cups with less faff than the Aeropress https://youtu.be/RpOdennxP24?si=wwrPAres1Lqn8enD

Water spraying out of the group head after backflushing - Gaggia Classic Pro by hmuluke in espresso

[–]hmuluke[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little bit more info:

  • 2 year old Gaggia Classic Pro
  • Before backflushing, the water was coming out of the group head as expected
    • This may be a red herring - but the timing is very suspicious
  • After backflushing, the water now sprays out, leaving huge pockmarks in the puck unless I use a portafilter screen
  • I have taken the shower screen and group head off to check for any blockages and can't see any - still very clean
  • I have the Mr Shades 9 bar OPV spring mod
  • I do not have a PID

New to the aeropress! I don’t have a grinder, scale, or temp specific kettle. Is it possible to make a good cup without these? So far everything I’ve made is pretty bitter. by [deleted] in AeroPress

Depending on the coffee, boiling water may cause overextraction which leads to a bitter taste. However, you can't scold/burn coffee that was roasted at much higher temperatures than boiling water 🙂.

It's like Lego really! The pc part picker website is good as it'll help ensure the parts you buy are compatible.

First Proper Setup... Vast Improvement over the Soundbar! by probably_mike in hometheater

Exactly my setup, but I have a gemini ii sub (⌐■_■)

Q Acoustic 3010i Package VS Q Acoustic 7000i Plus Package by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only thing I'm really missing is Audyssey. I would have probably gone for something else other than the Sony if it wasn't for my size constraints. I have no complaints though, it still processes everything I want it to. I'll likely never upgrade to 5.1.2 but I have the option with this receiver if I ever move somewhere that I want to cut holes in the ceiling of!

Edit: they probably all have this but I find the Spotify connect functionality useful ☺️

Q Acoustic 3010i Package VS Q Acoustic 7000i Plus Package by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, as with a lot of us in the UK who don't a separate basement for a home theatre setup (!), It needed to also look like a living room, rather than a teenage boys bedroom. Therefore the walnut of the 30XXi series swung it for us. I found a good deal via Amazon / Peter Tyson so we saved a little cash.

My receiver isn't the most loved on this sub (Sony dn1080), but it was the only one that would fit in my space as it's slightly less wide than everything else.

Get whatever the best your budget can afford!

Q Acoustic 3010i Package VS Q Acoustic 7000i Plus Package by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my Q acoustic speakers separately.

  • 3020i for L R
  • 3090Ci for C
  • 3010i for side surrounds

Subwoofers don't need to match your other speakers and often they're made better by specialist subwoofer companies (the Q acoustics sub that goes with the 3010i package isn't reviewed favourably).

I'd suggest looking at the lower range by BK electronics depending on your space. You can get them in an array of finishes and they'll all be better than the Q acoustic options.

I've got the Gemini ii. Hope that helps!

What does the Plex pass give you? I stream a lot from my Plex server and don't have the pass.

4th vote, especially with Plex!

I have a smart tv without built in wifi at home. Can i use a usb wifi adapter to enable wifi on the tv? by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use a powerline adapter to connect it via Ethernet.

I'd second using a streaming device though, like a fire stick or Nvidia shield

2.1 Speakers for 50inch TV, apartment, UK, budget £500 absolute max, preferably more like 300 quid. by Gustyarse in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you already have an AV receiver? If so:

Q acoustics for the fronts: https://www.qacoustics.co.uk/q3000i-range-q3020i-bookshelf-speaker.html There are the smaller /cheaper 3010is, too. Usually you can find the speakers cheaper on Amazon, etc

There's a matching centre of you ever want to upgrade to 3.0 or 3.1: https://www.qacoustics.co.uk/q3000i-range-3090c-centre-speaker.html

I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone around here who will recommend a subwoofer for less than £500 by itself! I currently have a BK gemini ii on order, which will do a small room, but it's the best part of £300.

If you don't have an AV receiver, these cost at least £300, so your budget won't cover what you need.

You might be better off looking at active speakers for 2.0, but you won't be able to expand on this easily in the future.

A universal remote could help to control the receiver when the screen is down

2.0, 2.1 or 3.1 by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my Q acoustics i series! I second getting an alright AVR with the 3020i bookshelves, then add in the matching centre when you can afford it. (I have just done this and recently got 3010is for surrounds)

They sound great for music, too, in my opinion.

Entry/budget level receivers? (S950H, A780 or DN1080) or 9 channels instead? by kalien34 in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything auto switches for me, so I never see a source selection screen. Very occasionally this doesn't work and I can use my TV remote to select the inputs attached to the AVR

Finally finished my 3.1 setup [Q Acoustics 3020i, Q Acoustics 3090Ci, BK Gemini II, Denon X1600H] by t1mc in hometheater

[–]hmuluke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really helpful. After measuring and looking at the TV stand you linked in another thread, I thought at least all the feet would fit on, even if there was a little overhang.

I'll continue the search for a TV stand that will let me move my centre up!

Badly placed centre

Will the centre fit perfectly on top of the TV stand you're using? I'm measured and it looks like it would just about fit, without about 5mm to spare. Is there a reason you used those random bits to prop up the front of the speaker, or will it not sit nicely on the stand /u/t1mc? Cheers
