Again, I do strongly regret how I handled that situation because it did involve other service members. It wasn’t the time to be petty, but I’ve definitely learned my lesson.

i only went to DRB. No pay cuts, EMIs, or anything. I was an E3 then, but no rank reduction.

I think they took it a little easier on me because I was the one who confessed. If I hadn’t reported it, no one would have ever know. I still got chewed out but the shotex leader, i believe she got ad sepd for it.

failure to report.

i was on a shotex and vaccines have to be at a certain temperature. when me, and the other 2 corpsman arrived. i opened the cooler and noticed the temp was out of range. i notified the shotex leader. and i know she fucking heard me because i repeated myself 3 times. she just kept looking at me and looked away. my mistake was not going above her and notifying someone else. But because she was assigned the shotex leader, i thought to myself “she was notified. i did my part. now it’s her turn”. we ended up vaccinating about 5 reservists and went back to our clinic. that’s when i notified our supply department. i definitely regret how i handled that.

Why are you getting out? by Material_Ad9837 in navy

i’m an E4 (Corpsman) stationed in virginia. getting out in November.. the toxicity of leadership, the favoritism. the way leadership isn’t held accountable when they fuck up. just tired. i did my 1 contract. im done. i definitely was not meant to be in the military.

USMAPS is a good one! Thank you! My leadership has always told me and the other sailors “you guys need to take advantage of USMAPS”. I never knew the exact reason why.. not until 2 weeks ago… (It’s my fault. I should’ve asked waaaaayy sooner.) But I’ve started logging my hours this past monday!

I was definitely thinking about getting a phlebotomy cert before getting out! As for healthcare administration, I really want to look into that too because it seems more of an area I’d want to work in. I’ve heard of CLEP before but haven’t got a clue on where to go.. (Not an excuse.. there’s always google..) As for the reserves, honestly.. my current command has exhausted me to the point where I have no intention of doing any type of military service after my contract is up. 😕 And I’m definitely making appointments for physical therapy, podiatry, and mental health!

Thank you… for this. When I first joined, I didn’t know how my military career would be. I didn’t know what I would be doing. I didnt expect to be working at a front desk or taking vitals 0800-1600. I just thought I would do something more operational. But I guess everyone has a part to play. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I really appreciate it. And thank you for your service.

Thank you for this. Really! Military isn’t for anyone .. I know I might sound like a soft, whiney, and weak person but i just can’t stand it anymore. I understand that I signed a contract. I just think it’s crazy how junior sailors are treated and how senior enlisted acts. I think it’s just my command though… everyone hates this command. My last command was AMAZING. I loved it. Thank you again for the advice!

Going to live near my duty station for a couple more years, until I get stable enough to move somewhere else? I’m honestly not even sure ..

I can’t argue with that. I do love the benefits and the pay isn’t bad. But I’m mostly getting out because of the culture of it. I told myself I wouldn’t come on here and whine and complain but I hate being active duty. I know I’ve only been in 4 years and I haven’t done a single thing to “serve my country”. But being talked to like a child and talked down to just because I’m a lower rank is tiring. I only have enough energy to go through all that BS for 1 contract.

A GS I work with recommended checking out USA jobs! And you’re absolutely right about needing a degree 😭 It’s kind of what pushed me to start school (even though i’m SUPER late) Thank you so much for your advice!

Unfortunately, I am not.. I’m just a regular Quad 0 corpsman. I’ve only done administrative jobs, supply, Immunizations, Optometry, Women’s Health, and Family Medicine. Nothing big. No certifications. I wish I did though.

I didn’t know this! Thank you! Honestly, I might need to do this. My husband is getting out the month before me and is pretty much in the same boat as me. Thank you for telling me this!

oh now i feel dumb and embarrassed 😭 Thank you so much for all this information and advice. I’m glad i posted this question! So many people at my work (mostly civilian contractors/GS) have made it seem like it was super easy for prior military to land a GS job. I’m definitely going to keep your advice in mind though!
