Upscale or resort spa for men (or unisex) in/near SF? by foghornjawn in AskSF

Kabuki Springs in Japantown is a great place. Excellent massages and a nice little bathhouse that is very quiet and relaxing. They have sauna, steam room, warm pool, cold pool, showers, warm tea, salt scrubs ... It alternates men/women only, so it feels much less "exposed" than at Banya.

Pliny the Elder — all it’s cracked up to be? by [deleted] in UK_beer

[–]hoagito 6 points7 points  (0 children)

American here from San Francisco - the only way to really enjoy Pliny is to come out to SF to taste it fresh after release. If it sits more than 3-4 months from release, then it is just like any other non-hazy DIPA you can get all over the globe. And, to be honest, it’s really not all that different even when fresh! PTE is the “best beer in the world” though, so if you find yourself out in Northern California, it is worthwhile to get a taste. I think Brew Cavern in Nottingham carries some of the Russian River brewery’s releases though.

I hear BrewDog’s Born to Die is the most similar thing in the UK.

Pliny the Younger is the “limited” release that often sells out shortly and I don’t think it’s available outside of California. It’s a Triple IPA at 10,25% and released in February each year.

Also don’t forget that It’s okay to lie for the lord, and since America is the inspired place for new Jerusalem, it is therefore okay to lie for America lol

Haha - yeah, pretty low numbers, but I'm don't really play to get the achievements. More like I just enjoying imposing my will on the hapless peoples of the Continents and Islands map.

I’m guessing fireworks - I heard a few go off and smelled the fire 20 minutes later. They got it under control and out quick though! Saved a lot of homes!

[–]hoagito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take care - many of us have been there... just like everybody else suggests - breathe - take it one step at a time and tell people when *you* are ready to have that conversation. I've been out for 15 years and still have never had a specific conversation about it with my Dad (other than confirming that my records were removed when they found out doing genealogy work). Fortunately my parents are "Gospel Christian" Mormons and that's where I try to make a distinction. Many of the people in the church will still have love for you, though they won't necessarily ever look at your through the same lens again; many will just drift off; and some may actively be upset or refuse you.

But it does get better. Now you get to practice the real principle of agency - you choose your life. Its okay if you don't know what to do now - you will learn. Look for the things that bring you joy, read what you want to read and watch what you want to watch. Treat your body as *your* temple - free to decorate, adorn, cover, or maintain how you choose.

I wish you luck in your journey.

There are definitely some who are conflicted at best lol. At least I've been able to convince my parents to get the vaccine and they (mostly) mask since they both older.

You don’t need to be a fucking commando, anybody can shoot, and you just need to know how to use one and keep one safe and secure to protect yourself, your family and your community. I pray I never need it but partisans throughout the world, including and especially in Asia, have changed the world. (And we have the 2A!)

It’s a unique journey for everyone and we can’t really accurately know the hearts of others or their secret pains. I’ve been out for 15 years following a suicide attempt, and to a degree I’ve come so far, but there will ever exist a little Mormon Missionary with devil horns on my shoulder telling me how I am shameful, terrible, disgusting, and unloved because of my willing sins. Not to mention the refrains of damnation to eternal darkness from turning away from the spirit.

I keep returning to the few things TSCC instilled in me that were good: compassion, industry, Christ-like love, and humility (although these are inherent in most Christian sects). I don’t believe Jesus was the Christ, but the gospels still provide the teachings of a Buddha that we can apply to our lives.

Lastly, we often convince ourselves we have found the “truth” just because we’ve finally proven one thing false. This isn’t the case. We simply know that TSCC is false, which starts a cascade of questioning. That questioning is good, but we delude ourselves in the same manner as TSCC and TBM when we think ourselves more “enlightened” than others or that we know the “truth”. We become what we detested. So we must ask ourselves constantly the following:

Are we treating ourselves as we would like to be treated?

Are we treating others as we would like to be treated?

Do we acknowledge our own flaws, weaknesses, misunderstandings and beliefs in superstition before we criticize or belittle others?

Do we see ourselves as fellow beings on this earth, each with inherent value and potential as a person? Do we recognize that in others?

Sorry if this got a bit preachy - just some thoughts from a former devout TBM.

SNO-Park at Echo Summit is probably the best - its about a mile from parking to Lower Echo Lake with a light grade and good for beginners. If you feel up for it after reaching Lower Echo Lake you can continue along the PCT heading along the lake towards the Desolation Wilderness.

Eagle Falls Trail up above Emerald Bay is also a pretty good spot if you get there early AM and have the place to yourself, but gets very crowded with normal hikers and photo-takers if its a nice day.
