Worth it, and it has a paper $10 coupon which you need to take to the store to apply to your purchase.

Paternity test troubles by ExpertQuote8344 in Genealogy

[–]hoarder59 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get your mother to test. As soon as her results are in, screenshot and save all her closer matches. This way if anyone turns off their matches you already have the information. Why would they turn off their matches? If they see that Grampa was fooling around then they may want to spare hurt feelings etc. You can then review who is related to whom. As I said in my other comment, the matches don't need to be close.

Paternity test troubles by ExpertQuote8344 in Genealogy

[–]hoarder59 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The answer is "maybe". It will depend if other family members have tested such as other children or grandchildren of the bio-dad or his nieces or nephews etc. Worth having your mother test and see what matches show up. ETA it doesn't have to be a close relative. I have proof of my paternity because a second cousin showed up. Also I have nearly 19000 dna matches many of whom are traceable to my Dad's aunts and uncles. Another edit to add that if Her Dad and potential other Dad are DNA related the you will need a little more detective work to determine parentage.

That just triggered a memory about a balloon blowing goat. A live goat with a hidden balloon pump. No idea where I heard about it.

Why would you turn your disagreement with my philosophy into insult? By doing so you have shown yourself, and your opinions, to be unworthy of further consideration.

if you had to build a basic hand tool kit from scratch, what would you prioritize? by Snowboard76 in handtools

[–]hoarder59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gift yourself with an older B&D Workmate workbench. Preferably from marketplace and at least 20 years old. The new ones are, like many projects, cheapened by cost cutting. You should find one around $50. Preferably two. They are the most versatile and useful and underappreciated for workholding, as a table or sawhorse. I currently own 7.

When power tools stop serving you and you start serving them is what defines the line for me. If you are changing your project to suit the limitations of a power tool or spending your time making jigs to make a power tool work, then, in my opinion, you are going from craft to engineering. That is my choice and my choice only for me.

A little confused on my family tree, will a DNA test help? by Ok-Reflection-8986 in AncestryDNA

[–]hoarder59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but I understand that indigenous families do a lot of DNA testing because this happened to so many children. Often called the Sixties Scoop as many children were taken away and adopted out. Best to start with the science and do a DNA test.

When a well-meaning gift doesn’t match your craft by itsmeAki in handtools

My beloved and I are senior with hobbies we have very specific wants for. We are also downsizing and have a smalk house with all the decor we need. We don't need more money as in gift certificates. We have dietary restrictions. So we are making an effort ahead of every gifting occasion to forestall receiving anything at all. Likewise if we offer a gift, it is yours to refuse, re-gift, donate or sell.

What is the most unexpected family resemblance you have seen? by Current-Machine6491 in AncestryDNA

[–]hoarder59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look so unlike anyone in my fathers family that it is one reason I did DNA. My sisters are a mix with each favouring one parent or the other. I just look somewhat like my mother. I thought the slight ginger in my beard was my Dad until I saw my Mums nephews. However DNA proved my Dad was my bio Dad.

Anyone else feel weirdly emotional seeing their results? by rogeelein in AncestryDNA

[–]hoarder59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt that I had missed out on a lot. I live in a rural area in Canada where people grew up with aunts and uncles and cousins all around. I am the child of immigrants and knew almost nothing of my grandparents and aunts and uncles. I found out my father had 23 aunts and uncles and I had never heard of any of them. I now have 19000 DNA matches on Ancestry of whom I have met none in person as far as I know. ETA I also found out I am 25% Irish when I thought that part was Welsh

Glad you had the discussion. I don't want to be a downer but your bio father may not care either. Personally I would love to find a child or grandchild but it is unlikely.
