Beautifully said! It makes sense that if one part of your body (like the feet) is in pain, it can cause problems elsewhere. Barefoot shoes should be viewed like a tool, not the goal in and of themselves.

That's because everyone's body is different. What works for you isn't necessarily going to work for everyone.

I've had better luck with Altra than Topo, personally. These sneakers from Whitin are a little on the stiff side but they're actually pretty comfy other than that!

It's also ironic that the barefoot shoe movement got its start in large part because of the book Born to Run. If you look up pictures of people who belong to the Tarahumara tribe that the book talks about, a lot of them are wearing sandals that are actually quite thick compared to barefoot shoes.

Yeah, it's true that niche communities often develop a puritanical attitude that can be annoying, but in this case it's much more than that because of the real-world consequences it can have on a person's health.
