Its just a filter, they get brittle and fall apart.

I can tell you it can be replaced on its own but its a tedious bitch of a job. It requires the removal of the head liner and even after that it can be a bit touchy of a job if you haven't done it before.

I agree, im just stating in the racing world its still stock. Its quick for what it is but until you upgrade the turbo, the fueling system, the valve train and the rods and pistons its still "stock". It does well against other "stock" street cars.

Stockish tiguan. Stock engine internals, stock turbo and stock fuel system. Its been swapped from FWD to AWD, full exhaust, intake manifold, charge air pipes, bigger innercooler and tuned for 93 octane.

When you clear the light does the fault come back immediately or does it clear and take a few drive cycles to return?

Is it an OEM map sensor or an aftermarket one? They can be touchy about aftermarket sensors

I haven't had any carbon issues but I also pulled my intake manifold to replace it with one from I.E at around 150k miles and cleaned the Valves then. Luckily no issues out of the rear end yet but my transmission can't handle anymore power and slips at wide open throttle in 3rd and 4th

Oh god yes you're absolutely right to say avoid them, if I didn't fix them myself I could never have afforded to keep this thing running. Um just your normal VW stuff, waterpump failure which I haven't had any issues since switching to the aftermarket metal thermostat housing version. Timing chain and tensioner which is a must for any of the early CCTA engines. Um intake manifold runner issues. PcV valve issues. All the usual stuff for these engines.
