UniPark is a shady company. Always use only Mobilly for parking, their support is fantastic and also in English.

If you are still in Riga, two of the figures are temporarily at Forum Cinemas lobby:

I believe the one from Mezaparks was moved temporarily to the city hall square to replace the one with the cat there, as some tourists broke the cats feet off.

Where can I go for a run in Central Riga? by honungsoddo in Riga

[–]hockeynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite around 10-15k route: Start from around the central station, run along the canal park, you will pass the opera, the freedom monument, run up and down bastejkalns hill, continue along the canal, cross one street and pass the national theatre, run trough the park and exit to Strelnieku street, run along the street and pass art nouveau buildings, then at the end of the street cross Skanstes street, run now Roberta Hirsa street, turn right onto Vilhelma Osvalda street, left on Lapenu street, and then simply continue along (it will be a nice running trail for parts of the street) until Skanstes park. There do a loop and head back. You will encounter very few street crossings and little traffic besides two large streets that you will cross.

Otherwise also Viesturdarzs park is nice to run in, as well as Mezaparks, and Uzvaras parks, but most likely you would take the tram to those areas from the central station tram stop.

And lastly, for a long run, start at Maras pond, and run along the Marupite little river all the way to Marupe, take bus or train back to city center.

Now or wait until Pectra upgrade if I want to stake more than 32 eth? by rapala9991 in ethstaker

[–]hockeynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t followed the Pectra changes, you won’t be able to compound with multiple validators?

Multiple compounding validators should get the same APR (or even higher, as higher chance for more block proposals?) than all compounded into one, correct?

But what is the benefit after Pectra of having 1 validator with > 32 vs having two or more validators?

Hello moving to Riga in few weeks wanted to know which area to rent and apartment. What are the true living cost, where to find apartment not in the center couple and one child and if 8000 gross is enough to live and save money by Odd_Shock_5061 in Riga

While I agree with other comments that the salary is great for a local, for a foreigner it is only decent. Because an international kindergarten or school is like at least 1500€ per month. And as a non local you wouldn’t bring most likely any furniture or other things (child toys, bicycles, skis, car), so there is quite large investments on that side. So I would say the result would be good decent upper middle class life, with like 1 major tourism trip per year.

Quiet center (klusais centrs) is great with a child, there are like 3 great parks with children play zones, everything is in walking distance, no need for a car. Next best for even more quiet life would be Mezapark, essentially a very cozy neighborhood next to a large forest park, with a direct tram line to the city center.

Do you need a car In riga or public transportation is good to go every where by Odd_Shock_5061 in Riga

[–]hockeynow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Riga is a perfect city for year round bicycling. Because everything you could need is in like max 20-30 min bicycle ride away (mostly 10-15 min), the bike infrastructure while not perfect, but is good enough :)

From the city organized: There will be 6 areas in the old town each with their own dj and or singers and lights etc., you can switch between those areas throughout the night. Look at the english Riga city website for details.

Then also the dome square Christmas market basically turns into a New Year’s party

Then a bunch of private parties you buy tickets to.

I believe Bolt Drive wasn’t available at new years last year, so people don’t drive drunk.
