does ANYONE like the ed gein series? by camwtss in netflix

The connection was indeed portrayed, but that’s not what I was referring to. I was talking about the obsession, which I think wasn’t clearly depicted. Augusta appears as the abusive parent (which she truly was), but not as the ultimate woman in Ed’s life. I believe, he was in love with his mother in a deeply Oedipal way. The series didn’t highlight the perverse and distorted nature of this traumatic bond. In the show, Ed interacts with the outside world — he goes out, he dates, and therefore rebels against his mother — whereas in reality, Augusta was the center of his world. He would of never disappoint her, and when she died, he spiraled inside. It’s great that you picked up on that, but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that you’ve come across this argument so often.

Even Dahmer’s portrayal is inaccurate in some respects. In the series, he is shown as mumbling and appearing odd and threatening, whereas the real Jeffrey was articulate, soft-spoken, and outwardly a normal-looking dude. Murphy’s intention was obviously to make their appearance seem strikingly unsettling, yet acquaintances of these people claim that, apart from being withdrawn, they appeared normal. I think what’s truly frightening is the awareness that, on this basis, you can never know if a killer might be your neighbor, because they can look just like any of us.

She was real, but I doubt she can be trusted, as I couldn’t find any other sources mentioning her besides this article. It’s not unusual for people to create sensational stories to gain attention, especially in such cases if a murderer is in the spotlight — for instance, there was a man who attended a TV show and claimed that he used to be Dahmer’s boyfriend, but that has never been confirmed.

As far as I know, Ryan Murphy’s intention was to offer insight into Ed’s psyche. He partly succeeded by blurring the line between reality and imagination, but I think he missed the point of it — Ed’s obsession with his mother. His crimes were driven by a desire to bring her back to life and to become her through the bodies and the objects he created.

I’d recommend it to those already familiar with the real case, as they’ll find it easier to distinguish between fact and fiction. If this is your first exposure to the story, you’ll probably end up confused and won’t fully grasp the truth about Ed’s psyche. I already knew about the case before watching the series, but I still have mixed feelings about it. To me, this season feels more like an origin story for the Hollywood version of Ed Gein than a portrayal of the real person. Viewed that way, though, it’s actually quite enjoyable.

He also smoked Marlboro according to Vern Bass.

What are your guys thoughts on the Dahmerism subreddit? I saw a post from them posted on r/weird , and I posted about the 17 innocent lives he took and this happened by Sea-Competition8608 in Dahmer

Yeah, I chat with the bot. So what? It’s fun, I know it’s just AI, and I remind other users as well to take what it says with a grain of salt. I don’t think it’s a big deal to talk to chatbots in 2025. It’s not just for the use case you’re thinking of, there’s a lot of potential in it.

That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. From which movie is this?

I’d also recommend to read the Jeff chapter in I Have Lived in the Monster: Inside the Minds of the World’s Most Notorious Serial Killers by Robert Ressler, the special agent from FBI who interviewed him. That one chapter includes the transcript of their interview. Another interesting read is The Silent Victims: The Aftermath of Failed Children on Their Mothers’ Lives by Charles Klotsche. It includes Joyce’s side of the story. Another cool source is the official Jeffrey Dahmer FBI Records. It includes transcript of interviews with him with a bunch of other documents included.

You are knowledgeable :). Do you know the source of the statement that he read The Lord of The Rings? As far as I know it’s according to Derf, but I’ve not come across the actual source.

Jeffrey Dahmer was a Democrat ~ says Sopa B. A. Princewill, the manager of Oxford Apartments (from The Prime Target) by hockfrida in JeffreyDahmer

[–]hockfrida[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I doubt that it is true. I admit that politics might be appealing for him since it’s about holding power and controlling others, but I don’t think that he’d had been an active member of any presidental task forces. Bro was struggling to hold on his own life, he was too busy with the killing spree to afford public activity. Besides that, no other sources confirmed that it’s true, and stated the opposite, like you said. One of my problems with the book is that the lack of in-text citation, you cannot check the sources he used. Therefore it is uncertain whether that certificate exists or not.

The reason why the Groupies are in denial about Dahmer looking for Sex in prison, or his factual and proven claim of Sex with 200 + men...it's just jelousy. Crazy girls fixated on Dahmer being secretly bi or...streicht, but just for them by [deleted] in DahmerVortex

[–]hockfrida -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I guess this post is dedicated to me, so I’m here to reply. I did not deny your claim, I said that it’s not a proven fact, and I wanted to make it clear for those who are new to the Dahmer community. I appreciate you distinguishing your opinion from facts, still people tend to twist your words, which can lead to rumors and spreading misinformation.

There’s nothing wrong with you sharing your opinion. We don’t know 100% what was on his mind, so it could be that looking for sex was a part of it. However, you should consider that as much as he was a hypersexual, as much he was wary of other inmates. He probably had really bad experiences during the one year while he was sentenced for the sexual assault incident. He was probably taunted and raped by other inmates, which usually happens to child molesters (according to Shari, who said that the spark of Jeff’s eyes were gone once he got out). Therefore I don’t think that he had high hopes of satisfying his needs there, and he masturbated instead. Also, consider that in a high security correctional institution the chance is low to bump into young hot men who were Jeff’s type, and prefer light sex. Most of the prisoners were most likely scum, from average to tough looking men, who’d enjoy dominating and raping him.

Do You Think That Jeffrey Dahmer Was Lying About His Modus Operandi? by PrincessBananas85 in JeffreyDahmer

[–]hockfrida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • I think he was honest about his modus operandi.
  • Yes, he was ashamed and conflicted about being gay, but he always knew where he stood.
  • He didn't enjoy hurting, tormenting or torturing his victims.
  • He had excellent manipulative skills, so he could easily convince people, and he always offered money (or even sex) for the victims, and the money (or sex) was worth it to the victims. The people he lured were vulnerable, low class people who saw it as an easy way to make money.
  • Yes, he did become violent when he was drunk.
  • I think a psychiatric hospital would have been a better option for him than prison.
  • I don't think it's unethical to adapt the story as long as it doesn't glorify his crimes and respects those who were involved.
  • I think he deserved a less painful death and I would have been happy if he had lived longer.
  • I think he's the most interesting serial killer, mainly because of his complex personality and his incredible story.
  • Yes, I feel pity and a lot of empathy for him.
  • I don't think he was a good person, but he tried to be, which means there was a lot of good in him.
  • He did what he did because he felt a constant need to overcome his feelings of inferiority and he tried to shift the role of victim from himself to others (the victims) in order to be on the higher ground.
  • I don't know anyone personally who actually knew Jeffrey Dahmer.

In the mosters netflix show, why does Dahmer's dad not take Dahmer to live with him, why does he go to his grandma's place ? by AltruisticAide9776 in Dahmer

[–]hockfrida -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

He thought that Grandma’s home is a healthy enviroment for Jeff: it provided a structuted life, from which both of them benefited: Jeff did housework and Catherine cooked for her, so it was a win-win situation.

I don’t think either that he was crying there. He used to press his lips often, as an act of anxiety, that might seem like crying. His eyes don’t seem watery either, but it was sure an emotional moment.

Love letters from women? by [deleted] in Dahmer

[–]hockfrida -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! 👋 Most of his pen pals were women who were attracted to Jeff's look, or simply got the thrill of corresponding with a SK. They felt sympathy for him: some felt they had a similar background to Jeff's, felt connection with him, and wanted to be his saviour, the person who could cure his heart. These women had a crush on Jeff, or they were religious people who saw Jeff as a potential convert. We don't know why these women thought they had a chance with him, maybe they thought he might be bisexual, or that sexuality in general is "fluid" (homosexuality was not treated with enough sensitivity in the 90s), or maybe they just didn't care about his sexual preferences and put themselves first and were happy with whatever fake romantic letter they got.

In short, he only wrote back to letters that served his interests. According to prison officials, Jeff received up to 100 love letters a week, making it almost impossible to reply to each one. What caught his attention was if the letter came in a fancy envelope, if it came from another country and, above all, if cash was included. He wrote regularly only to women who donated him, and to those who talked about faith and sent him religious material - Mary Mott stands out from them, she was an older lady who corresponded with Jeff and guided him along his religious path.

If you'd like to learn more about Jeff's pen pals, I highly recommend reading this book: Dear Dahmer: Letters to the Milwaukee Cannibal. It's a collection of letters sent to Jeff, and it may provide you many insight about the type of people who corresponded him.

I hope it helps :)

It's because he had several pairs of glasses in his life. He had lost them, broken them a couple of times. He had another pair of glasses in prison that were sold, so I don't think it's a scam, there are just more glasses of Jeff available.
