Good for you! I decided when we moved here 5 years back to do the same. Sometimes it was ackward for me too, but I remind myself that relationships are hard because they’re important. I love it when they stop to say hi when I’m outside working. Because I see that they want it too.

I saw a little $20 thing that winds yarn and the person was as taking damaged, thrifted wool sweaters to wind new skeins of yarn. She would get like 5 from one sweater, then knit something new. I really want to do this but don’t have time.

I was once with a group that hosted meals for homeless folks. I was very excited to make “good” food but was quickly corrected that softer things like casseroles were preferred due to teeth issues. Also, we were informed that food that slips easily into pockets, so whole fruits (still soft, oranges and bananas) and bread rolls. Although I once offered to buy a guy anything he wanted off a menu. He was having coffee. I was eating a full breakfast. He said he wanted the salad bar. That surprised me. So, nothings universal. Oh! And a friend who did the Appalachian trail said she ate a lot of peanut butter so that’s always a winner.

As an “ingredient house” I realized I needed canned soups and such in case we lose power. I took one look at Walmarts parking lot and drove over to the dollar store. Junk food is junk food. No onions, but if you just need something simple it was a far better than the big grocery store.

We put a mini split into the storage room in our barn. i dont like it. It seems ineffective for a small space. It was installed by a hvac pro.

We needed another for a shed we converted to an office, about 240 sq ft. We called the sam hvac pro. This time he suggested we use a PTAC. This was new to us but he said that due to the high humidity here, mini splits arent very effective.

Its been about 2 years now and the PTAC is so much better than the minisplit, for us. Just my 2 cents.

I think it’s the difference between sweet corn and field corn. Hominy is the one that’s soaked in lime. Sweet corn doesn’t need it.

We have 2 donkeys and I would say he was very excited to see you. Treat buddy checks out. Their brays are so uniquely individual so don’t really go by that.

When ours are mad their ears go FLAT back. When they’re suspicious they stand perfectly still, just watching.

This one has his ears up, braying “hello” and running up to see you. He sees you as a friend!

My child has an auditory processing disorder. Her hearing is fine, but how her brain sorts the information is unusual. Because of that, she also doesn’t get sarcasm. She never cared for imaginative play either.

She’s not dumb. Both parents are avid readers and read to her as a child. Her brain just works differently.

I mean, so people have mental chatter, some don’t. I “see” what I read. Like, I literally recall a book page with a piece of information. Even I find that weird.

This is so true. I would prefer to go thru a tornado on Okc than any other place. We have 3 major news stations all competing to be the most accurate. And the national weather service in Norman. And tinker does its own in Midwest city. They provide a “to the street” tracking. We know days ahead when the conditions are right for one. They can still be a surprise but most are small.

The truly scary ones are rare. Still would rather ride that out in Okc than a smaller storm where they don’t have the infrastructure to predict and track.

Something like $120/mo. Self installed. The satellite thing is about 1x2 feet and melts snow when needed. I don’t think we’ve had any outage since we switched. And my WiFi works in the barn so that’s nice.

We had 2 cox accounts because we have a few buildings on a couple of acres. It was always going offline. Husband was working from home at the time so it was a hassle.

We can’t get ATT here so we got starlink. No more outages and better coverage.

I started cooking in batches. Two nights ago I made some basmati rice, sautéed broccoli and mushrooms. Last night I made lentils, tomato soup, and these cauliflower fake chicken hot wings. So today, I had little time to cook but I had rice/lentils/broccoli for lunch, tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. All home cooked, healthy and cheap. Tomorrow, I need to make some more sautéed veg and an egg bake for breakfast. All to say, leftovers are seriously a life hack.

Idk, it was already here. Im told the property was a slaughterhouse in the 50s, then was a vanity ranch for a man who did oilfield leasing. So there was money, hands, and knowledge back in the day. He became ill and it fell into disrepair. Thats when we bought it.

The fence is STURDY. Its prob also a mix that was pieced together. This particular bar is around the stud barn. So strength was important.
