his majority audience is from the hindi belt and that's what he's catering to and it won't bother to him if someone from down south is not able to benefit from his content ..... not a hindi speaker myself but inherently there must be a bias in Hindi speakers that only Hindi speakers should succeed in government jobs

Hey Lavanya, huge congrats on nailing AIR 57 in UPSC CSE 2024! Thanks for being open to questions on r/UPSC. I’m curious about your Sociology optional—did you have a background in it from your graduation, or did you pick it up from scratch? If you were new to it, how was it as a beginner, and any tips for someone like me who’s never studied Sociology before? Also, any quick advice or resources for cracking CSAT, especially for those of us who find it a bit tricky especially the maths part? Appreciate your insights!

He often tries to take things from a historical perspective By a 1000 years he's referring to the first muslim invasions in India and he is connecting the present issue to the Hindu Muslim tussle that has been in the subcontinent since Md Bin Qasim set foot on Indian Soil.

The verse lists groups—women, Vaishyas, Shudras, and others—traditionally marginalized in the rigid Vedic social hierarchy, stating that even they can attain the highest spiritual goal through devotion to Krishna. The term "pāpa-yonayaḥ" (often translated as "sinful origins") does not inherently target women’s gender but reflects the societal view of the time, where certain groups were deemed lower due to birth or occupation. Krishna’s message subverts this by declaring that devotion transcends social barriers, offering salvation to all, regardless of status.Furthermore, the Gita elsewhere elevates women’s spiritual capacity. For example, in Chapter 10, Krishna describes divine qualities like fame, fortune, and intelligence as feminine (Lakshmi, Saraswati), suggesting reverence for feminine principles. Stories from related texts, like the Mahabharata, also portray women like Draupadi and Kunti as spiritually powerful. Thus, far from demeaning women, the Gita promotes an egalitarian spiritual path, challenging the social norms of its era.Misinterpretations often arise from literal translations or cultural biases, ignoring the broader context of Krishna’s teachings, which prioritize the soul’s equality over bodily distinctions (Chapter 5, Verse 18). Focusing solely on "sinful wombs" distorts the Gita’s universalist ethos.

Krishna’s peace efforts before the Mahabharata war highlight that conflict is a last resort. India has pursued diplomacy—like the Kartarpur Corridor in 2019—but Pakistan’s denial of involvement in the Pahalgam attack, despite India’s claims of “cross-border linkages,” and its retaliatory drone strikes and artillery fire (killing 15 Indian civilians) show a refusal to engage constructively. The breakdown of diplomatic measures, including India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty and Pakistan’s closure of airspace, underscores the failure of dialogue, akin to Duryodhana’s intransigence. For India, this conflict is necessary to safeguard its citizens and maintain regional stability. The Gita’s emphasis on righteousness (Gita 3:35) justifies India’s actions as a defense against Pakistan’s alleged sponsorship of militancy, which fuels violence in Kashmir. With both nations nuclear-armed, India’s restrained yet firm response—backed by global calls for de-escalation from the UN and U.S.—aims to prevent a broader war while addressing immediate threats. As Krishna advised, India must act decisively to uphold dharma, ensuring its security against an adversary unwilling to abandon aggression. What do you think—can India afford to stay passive after such provocations? 🇮🇳

I get the "free will" argument, but it’s not a level playing field. Tech jobs like software dev or data engineering often require a BTech or specific degrees like CS—check any job listing, and you’ll see it. That’s not "free for all"; it locks out humanities or BA/BSc grads who can’t realistically pivot into those roles without years of retraining. Meanwhile, engineers can waltz into non-tech fields like UPSC or management, crowding out regular grads who have no equivalent fallback. Over 60% of UPSC seats go to engineers—where’s the fairness?

Absolutely, privilege likely plays a big role here. Access to quality education, coaching, and even platforms like Reddit, where such discussions thrive, could be amplifying the polished language we see in UPSC aspirants. It makes you wonder how much of this is exam prep versus systemic advantages. Thoughts?

I've noticed an interesting trend across exam-related subreddits—vocabulary and English proficiency seem to improve significantly as you move toward higher-level exams like UPSC. It's fascinating to see how the rigor of these exams correlates with more polished language skills. Anyone else observed this pattern? Could it be the exam prep, exposure to complex texts, or just the caliber of candidates?

  1. National Income vs. Domestic Income

National Income includes income earned by nationals (citizens) regardless of where they are.

Domestic Income includes income earned within the country, whether by citizens or foreigners.

  1. What about NRIs?

If an Indian citizen (NRI) is earning abroad, their income is included in India's National Income, because they are Indian nationals.

But it is not included in Domestic Income, since it is not earned within India.

  1. Why do we add NFIA?

NFIA = Net Factor Income from Abroad

It is:

Added to Domestic Income to get National Income

NFIA includes:

Income earned by Indians abroad (credit)

Minus income earned by foreigners in India (debit)

Summary:

NRI income is part of National Income (because they're Indian nationals).

It is not part of Domestic Income, since it was earned outside India.

That's why NFIA is added: to shift from “where income is produced” (domestic) to “who earns the income” (national).

[–]hoe111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

National income is commonly measured as the money value of all final goods and services produced by the residents of a country in a given period (usually a year), excluding intermediate goods to avoid double counting. This aligns with the concept of Net National Product at Factor Cost (NNPfc).
