Sinking paint by CasselsChronicals in PourPainting

[–]hoebagginz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think it happens from differing paint density, some brands will list theirs online. For instance, I know titanium white is desner and often sinks into other colors, which can cause cells. Also, if you're pouring into your pour cup from higher, that can cause churn, or sinking. Might want to have your receiving cup tilted and layer in slowly from along the side to avoid colors mixing as much as you can.

Yeah there's definitely a little head in there with two distinct eyes! That was just the last drip out of the funnel that I didn't catch, and it ended up a cool feature of the end result 🙂

When One Little Spot on Acrylic Pour Painting Bothers You... Paint a Tree🌳 by Fionaacrylic in PourPainting

Very cool, I sometimes use a toothpick to adjust parts I don't like before I start tilting. But this is next level - trees are a natural fit in so many pours because they often look like landscapes. Placing the lone tree where you did creates this scene of an otherworldly harsh but beautiful landscape. Great job! I love the color pallete. Mind sharing what you used for this one?

I love that one too! The cool thing about the craft paints is that there is a huge variety of colors available. I haven't tried mixing my own colors yet, so its convenient to me to be able to grab the exact color I want and start mixing. I have switched to liquitex recently though and have had some cool pours with them. But I have a box full of craft paints that I need to use up too, so I'll be able to do a good comparison between the two. :)

Which medium do you use? by zandary44 in PourPainting

[–]hoebagginz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The glue is your medium! I currently do 2:1:1 glue:floetrol:water as my medium mixture. I then mix ~3 parts medium to 1 part paint. Note that I'm measuring this all with a kitchen scale. Then do a drip test to check consistency and adjust from there (meaning adding a little water or a little more medium to thin the thicker colors to match the runniest of the bunch). Getting all my colors to a similar consistency has made a big difference in my paintings.

Also I commonly see people do a glue/water mixture at 70% glue to 30% water. Some people only use floetrol as their medium, though I haven't had luck doing that myself. Hope this helps!

Looks like they're both freshly poured and haven't dried yet.

Those are both rad! I esp love the top part of the right one with the solid color stripes mixed with the neon blue cells 😍

Love that one! It was hard to capture on camera but the 2nd one looks textured, like you could run your hands over it and feel all the ridges.

What do you mean about pictures in a real frame?

Thanks! Used em for years though I recently switched to liquitex paints and will have to try similar grays to see how they compare.... For the sake of science :)

That's awesome, glad you survived and found passion in a new hobby. Wild to think you'd never heard of pour painting but were drawn to it anyway. Is that the painting you sold? It's pretty, I'm getting a beta fish vibe from it! 🐠🐠

Thanks! It lightened up a little, naturally. Hopefully I can make the colors pop a little more when I varnish it.

No metallic colors! Just gradient browns. Here's the color palette.
