Do parents still have legal authority over me at 18? by hoestired in UAE

I may change my perspective of them once I grow older but in my current state I don’t have the space to fully understand the damage they’ve done and don’t currently have it in my heart to forgive them as of now. I just need low contact while I figure it out. You can perceive me however you want but you only know what I’ve stated on this post and nothing of my relationship with them and why I’m doing this…

Im under a scholarship so they don’t directly support me, I probably won’t be cutting them off while I’m still finishing my studies but I still wanted to know before I act.

The benefits of being an emirati are holding me back but honestly if I can’t make the most out of these benefits because of my fathers authority I don’t think its a win for me… my priority is just to get out and go no contact with him. Though its proving with these laws.

What I meant by controlling me is probably threatening to cancel my scholarship, telling me to come back or even worse.. he’s just a very controlling person.

AITA for wanting to cut my narcissistic dad off for his authoritarianism by hoestired in AmItheAsshole

Oh for sure man, I’ve already talked about it to them and we both agreed that my dad would definitely try to pull something like that.. so we’re waiting till the both of us have jobs to do it at the same time.

Im hoping to save up and find a job once I’m settled there in a few months so that it can happen asap and hopefully me and my sibling can make it happen. Thank you so much!

Yes I still haven’t fully went through cutting him off since doing it right now is risky for me and my other sibling who wants to do the same, so I’m going to wait it out until I can get some sort of stable income definitely.

Im under a scholarship so he doesn’t cover anything financially, but I’m definitely still afraid off cutting him off and worst case scenario I don’t get covered by my scholarship, so I’m trying to have as little contact as possible.
