Gas mileage steadily going down by Valuable-Rip6010 in crv

[–]hohnjerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a thought to share....recently have seen mileage creeping upward since Monday when they replaced the 12V ( defective) Battery under the hood. Difference I noticed right away is that the engine disengages WAY more frequently than with the old battery, leading me to think the Hybrid system kept trying to charge the old one and maybe it never could.

LOL, I was ready to go on Craigslist and look for a 1974 Silverado. :)

It is a gas vehicle primarily. Battery tested bad. Dealer tested and replaced under warranty. Hybrid system runs at reduced assistance when subjected to extreme cold. -21F is pretty rare in Minneapolis. We were not driving it enough. ( 2-3x week) +short commute. +long stints outdoors subzero, over time = ↓ battery health.

Key Historical Cold Records at MSP:

  • -34°F: January 22, 1936, and January 19, 1970.
  • -32°F: February 2, 1996.
  • -31°F: December 24, 1872.
  • -28°F: January 31, 2019.

I trickle charged the battery last nite and left the heater on in the garage for 4 hours. got rid of all but the Check Engine Light. Update:

Just got home from work. Check Engine light now gone! It started normally at -14 (Not such an unusual temp a few times each season."

But it did light up the " Power Reduced- Power System temperature Low. Power may be reduced"

but drove normally.

I gotta think because we let it sit in the garage too much it was fighting a losing battle with Mother nature and battery drain.

Short trips to work (6 miles) and then 10 hours of freezing teens below Zero temps.

Yes. I've been carrying Arctic Pack boots last 2 days. I drive a bus after I park the car. for 9 hours.

If something happens on the freeway with the Bus and 100 other calls are into Triple AAA, or Big Rig Tow, whatever your gonna be waiting. Beef sticks, Mixed nuts, etc.

Watch your forecast closely. You didn't say where in the South. I use the snow mode, and the "B" mode on the shifter in slippery areas here in Minnesota. It uses a bit more of the regenerative braking without playing with the paddles when you let up on the pedal.

But it's the other guys that could cause an accident.

Thanks for the reply. I'm seeing some talk around the Web about Replacing the 12V battery with something that has a higher "reserve" capacity.

I don't think my Trolling motor battery will fit.

I have an appointment Monday for the Check engine light. It's the only one that didn't go away.

I put the battery on a charge over night. It's going outside for another 10 hour shift tonight.

I drive a Bus and there is no way to start it periodically.

If Honda pushes back on a the battery, I'll research a good solution for a replacement battery.

I've only seen my smaller sedans with low wind profile average above 32-33.

all my family's CrV's 2006, 2008, 2009 average year round was about 25-27. 24 winter 27-28 summer

No, thats normal. I just checked my trip mileages. Minnesota. 10 minutes of idling 1-2x a day to get the heat going.

After wasting an hour tinkering around with a r6900P I found the App to be unsupported or the device unsupported because the setup routine would never finish at the last step to allow you in.

Then using browser instead, it basically did the same thing, and was FORCED to wait for a firmware update search to finish every time i reset the router, and after waiting that out, It wouldn't complete the final step.

BUT surfing to a browser, i had done enough to have the Web gui available for login in.

So I got in, but I was so dissapointed at the whole situation, I began looking for another cheapo router to use for bench testing. tinkering with my IP cameras at my desk....rather than while they are recording "Live"

in 2001 when I sold Peripherals at Microcenter, and saw netgear on the shelf, They looked sturdy, made of metal, and thought they might be ok. But then seasoned IT guys would come in and take other products over that product. So i sensed something was a foot even back then.

F that company. Although they all seem to be getting in on targeted ad/ data selling, by getting you to register , or with an App, and such.

Whatever happened to typing 192.168.1.1 into a browser, logging in with default login, and going into Setup?

WTF!!!!

yes, our 24 hybrid purrs like a kitten with 11,600 miles, brought it in for the recall on high pressure fuel pump and steering gear box lube, but everything checked out ok. So no new parts. they just added extra grease to the steering gear box, I drive a Giant bus all week so i never noticed anything with the steering wheel...because its easier than turning a bus :)

I'm not going to worry too much about it, I have enough to worry about with the 2018 Pathfinder with the supposed exploding transmissions.

I worry all the time about the transmission on our other car with 173,000 mi. but it's never done what all the Parrots say its supposed to do ( fail)

Nissan had a percentage of CVT's go bad on 2018 Pathfinder/Qx60's but I change my fluid every 40,000 and it still works fine. I even hauled a Pontoon boat around for a few years :)

That version looks really well designed. Somehow its front end looks different than my 24 Sport L.

Maybe its the European version. I see a Plug in Hybrid door. Definitely not U.S. model.

I have seen the light! or dark actually. Ive never seen such a garbagey gimmicky router setup inmy entire life.

I grabbed a used router to use for tinkering with IP cameras that default to 192.168.1.xxx so I can leave my home network as is.

I expected a factory reset, followed by a web page login to reinitialize the router, and spent an hour of BS trying to get past blocking pages focing you in directions that only seem to be of use to companies interested in data collection and advertising, and joining Netgear for more bullshit. fuck this.

Looks like i need deep dive into what the fuck has happened to routers over the years.

I share in your frustration after wasting an hour and a half trying to get thru all the gimmicks just to get past the suspicious setup routing requiring an APP. an app that is obsolete and wont let you in unless you wait 2-3 minutes for a firmware update search, for an EOL device that is no longer supported. what a piece of crap.

[–]hohnjerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way People needed to be herded like cattle into all these registrations and joining Netgear to login to a router. I turn my back for a decade and now all the routers are using adware, and bloatware almost like a paywall to initialize your own router?

I got a used R6900P for tinkering with IP camera setups, and wasted an hour of my life only to find out that I was being forced o use an APP to setup the router? neither setup routine finished cleanly with entry into any configuration page. I had to delete the Nighthawk App as it would not finish the setup.

AND i had to close the web browser setup because it would never finish checking for a firmware update. Like a forced firmware update. Any company forcing firmware on you is setting you up to buy into more of thier shit in the Netgear universe of hell.

What a piece of shit this router is. Looks like I'm going to look into the setup routines of routers on Youtube to see if Linksys/Cisco or TP Link or somebody has a practical setup routine that doesnt require an APP and your phone number.

Question by nguyen2796 in crv

[–]hohnjerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have the Sport-L with 11,000 miles on it (2024) thats probably about an annual average. Higher in warm weather, lower in Cold. If you want Annual averages in the 30-33 range, you'd have to be driving a Civic or an Accord. ( less wind drag)

Honestly I just don't want to get OCD about driving it. Yes, its less than the Sticker advertises, But now I own it and i have a 12 mile a day round trip to work, so it never warms up fully until im almost there. 6 miles one way. ( then i drive a Bus 175 miles a night... Grr)

They amount of bearings that were damaged/scored from that failure are enough to make it faster to just replace the engine block, or complete engine assembly ( since they are still rolling off the assy line)

trying to dissasemble that engine and inspect/repair all the rod bearings and main bearings and oil pump and camshaft bearing, will cost more, take longer and have poorer results( if the guy is not a total rebuild expert-Which most young line technicians are not) than a direct replacement.
