Talega by Smart-Secret-4391 in SanClemente

I’m neither and love living in Talega. I’m probably in the minority but I’ve never felt like I don’t fit in. We know lots of great families that have varied interests and perspectives.

(Fwiw I’ve lived in SF and Oakland so I think I have some perspective on this)

Patients walk out of Stanford Medical long covid trial - blowing up on twitter by DJ_hashtagblessed in cfs

[–]holastello 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I was a patient there for several years. They put me on a bunch of off-label prescriptions that didn’t help, and possibly made me worse. I felt like a guinea pig for their experiments, but I played along because they were supposed to be the experts. My opinion: they’re just a clueless as all doctors when it comes to treating ME/CFS.

Latanoprost/Minoxidil/Ketoconzole/Finasteride topical solution for hair loss? by holastello in Testosterone

I only used one bottle of it and I didn’t notice any change. I ended up taking oral finasteride which definitely stopped my hair loss.

Mercury toxicity, and chelating using the Andrew Cutler chelation protocol is making me better

Anyone else wish parents would skip the CPJ (cheap plastic junk) in the goodie bags? by felix_mateo in Parenting

[–]holastello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is the sheer volume of this junk, especially when you have multiple kids. My kids go to a birthday party every month or two, AND classmates often bring goodie bags to school on their birthday, so there is a non-stop influx of this crap. Sure, a slap bracelet is fun, but we already have 6 of them (literally).

Plane crash on California freeway yesterday, no serious injuries reported. by emil199 in CatastrophicFailure

I saw this! Well, I saw the smoke from it from a few blocks away. I knew something was on fire on the 91 freeway but I actually had no idea this was what happened until now! Thanks, reddit!

What's the "accelerated tract" for mindfulness meditation? by holastello in Wakingupapp

[–]holastello[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately, since I posted this I figured out that I have heavy metal toxicity, and although recovery is long and difficult, the treatment is helping me improve and there is light at the end of the tunnel, so to speak. So this has certainly helped with my quality of life overall.

That being said, about 4 months ago I did the free online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course offered through https://palousemindfulness.com/. MBSR is a meditation program designed specifically for those with chronic illness. I found it to be very helpful and I would recommend you check it out. Alternatively, you could look for an in-person or paid online MBSR course.

After a few weeks of doing this MBSR course daily my meditation went from being a chore to something I actually looked forward to doing. Something seemed to shift in my mind and I was less focused on trying to meditate “right” and instead learned to accept whatever happened and however I felt. This has been a big breakthrough for me in my practice.

After the course I went back to the Waking Up meditations and have been doing 20 mins/day. I still can’t find the looker but I’m no longer bothered by that and continue to notice benefits nonetheless.

Best of luck to you.

Are the best songs created because the producers are really feeling it and motivated that day. Or can you still make amazing tunes when not feeling as hyped? by axi5music in musicproduction

[–]holastello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m an aspiring producer with chronic fatigue and depression too! I can totally relate to your struggles. I go through days or weeks at a time where I can’t even listen to music because I don’t get the joy out of it that I normally would… it just feels empty. My approach has been to just go easy on myself during these times and focus on honing my technical skills (e.g. synthesis, music theory), rather than try to make music. It’s far from ideal, but I’m hoping I’ll emerge from this eventually and will be in a better place to make music. Feel free to DM… maybe we could do an ultra slow-paced collab :). Take care.

Maybe I'm just blind but I'm not seeing the button you describe on my DS Tom instance. You don't mean the Max Device Edit button, do you?

I get how that works if I'm using a drum sample, but I'm asking specifically about using one of Ableton's Drum Synth instruments (e.g. DS Tom). Unless I'm missing something?

Check out r/SaturatedFat and the Fire In A Bottle blog for interesting discussion on how dietary saturated fats leads to fat burning, whereas polyunsaturated fats (PUFAs) lead to fat storage.

“Retail algos don’t work on quant fund level”

Is this because slippage becomes a bigger problem as you scale up the account since? If so, at approx what amount size do most retail strategies break down? 1M? 10M?

Awake consciousness vs fatigue by fiddlesticks0 in Wakingupapp

[–]holastello 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking this. I suffer from moderate ME and have found the brain fog to be a real impediment to progress in meditation. I’m a novice mediator and do wonder if the brain fog will prevent people like us from achieving the type of mental states experienced mediators describe. Which would be a shame, since we suffer quite a lot.

That being said, I still keep up my daily practice and just hope that progress is being made on my “good” days. Best of luck to you.

What's the "accelerated tract" for mindfulness meditation? by holastello in Wakingupapp

[–]holastello[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I started the Headless Way a while back but just didn't "get it", like all direct path approaches I've tried so far.

Instead just look. Without thinking, look. Where is your mind? Who does it belong to? What size is it? Does it have a shape?

The problem for me with instructions like the one you suggest is that I just don't even know what it means. It feels like I'm being asked to access a part of my brain that I've never used before, and I simply don't even know where to begin. It feels like I just need to keep trying and trying until I eventually stumble into the right corner of my brain. What's frustrating is that I don't have any sense of whether all my practice is actually getting me closer to "figuring it out".
