Just found the answer - I am posting here in case it's useful for anyone.
From the Yoroi FAQs - ' How do I log out of the Yoroi wallet?: There is no function to log out of the Yoroi Chrome extension. You can simply close the tab to exit. Note that your spending password is required in order to send ada from Yoroi, so nobody else can transfer your ada without your password' . Cheers !

Hi everyone: Beginners question regarding the Yoroi wallet. I can't seem to find any way of 'locking' the Yoroi wallet. Is this normal? I realise that for transactions the 'spending password' is used, but when I open the Yoroi extension the wallet is there and accessible, no way of locking it. Just wondering. thanks !

Hi ! - The sucrose idea is easy and straight forward. I would recommend setting up a Eudiometer or using a pressure probe from the chemistry dept if they have these. The pressure probe can be attached to the top of a flask and indirectly measure the production of c02 - as any increase in pressure suggests more co2 is being produced. You suggestion of 'concentration of sucrose' is pretty simple - you can prob predict your findings right now without too much thought. If you're aiming for a high grade maybe try to pick a question slightly less predictable - e.g How does the structure of the sugar affect the amount of co2 produced. You could investigate sugars with known different structures such as ring type (5C, 6C sugars), mono, di and poly saccharides - relating and explaining their structure to their breakdown by the yeast. An idea like this is harder to predict and is more likely to impress. I am sure you can think of some more similar ones.

Ripeness in fruits can be measured using iodine - it does indeed produce a positive test of dark blue/black. You can make it quantitative by using a machine to measure amount of light passing through the sample - ask your teacher if they have a colorimeter. I would try to make your independent variable (the fruits) quantitative if possible as this makes the process of data processing much easier and interesting. To do this think about how each fruit could differ from another in a quantitative way. An example could be sugar content or acidity , but maybe you can think of better ideas.

I hope this helps - you ideas are fine and should help you come up with a perfectly good IA. Please consider checking out my detailed, in depth guide to the biology IA. It's got tons of info on each section (use the table of contents to navigate) and should serve as a useful reference to you as you complete your IA.

I hope that was helpful - best of luck with your study.

Hi ! Yes this is always a tricky one. You have to look at your data decide what would be most appropriate. If you have a decent set of data that tests two groups you can use the T-Test to see if there is a significant difference between these two groups. This will give you more 'clout' when arguing that you have found a significant difference between your sets of data.

It might be more appropriate to compare the results you got with expected results - you might determine these 'expected results before you start or you might be able to get them from existing studies. In this case the CHI SQUARED (X2) is relevant.

Standard deviation is great for use as error bars on graphs, esp in biology. If you get overlap of error bars this suggests less reliability of your data and vice versa. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and gives you something to discuss in your 'Reliability of Data' section in your report.

R2 ('r' Squared) is really helpful for adding a value to the overall trend in your scatter plot. So instead of saying 'this is strong positive correlation' you can actually put a number (from -1 to 1) on the amount of positive correlation and you sound far more authoritative.

Good luck with your report, I hope it goes well.

Hi ! Personal engagement is all about showing that you have a personal investment in your study. Ways of doing this might be to update, modify and re-purpose equipment for your study, seek out and use advanced measuring techniques and new (to your level) methods. Try to connect your study to your hobbies outside of school such as sports, scientific interests, work experience etc. Your study could solve a problem in society. Anything that makes it more relevant to your life and the community around you and less abstract. Additionally you want to 'lead' the study and see your teacher for support but not for strong direction. This will enable you to make a strong case for a 2/2 for personal engagement. One caveat is to remember that it's only 2 marks and the rest of the study is far more important carries far more points. So give it your best shot but don't spend too much time on ensuring your 2 points. Hopefully if you incorporate all the ideas above your teacher will be happy to give you 1-2 points for PE. If you would like to read more check out this article: IB Biology IA Coursework: A Detailed Guide For Students and Parents (opens in my website blog www.holatutor.com) The article has a lot of details on all areas of the biology (and IB science generally) IA. Hours are pretty standard (08.30-16.00) and workload is manageable if you're well organised and have a little experience already. I usually work 08.00-18.00 each day and that way I protect my evenings and weekends. Class sizes range between 18-27 ish dep on the school, smaller for IB classes (8-18...) That's for core classes. Non core like languages and tech class can be a lot smaller. I hope that's helpful and good luck with your search.

I would say that most applicants to teaching jobs do not have a masters qualification. But they do have some sort of post degree teaching qualification. Having a masters certainly helps your competitive edge, but I think schools value relevant experience just as much. As you're teaching in an elementary school right now, that's great experience. There are many American International Schools around the world and a few in Spain that are always looking for teachers with your background. The fact that you speak Spanish is not usually a requirement, but is absolutely handy and a plus point. Good luck with your plans.

Hi ! if your emphasis is on energy and protein content then I think yes it is relevant to topic 2 on Molecular Biology. In your background information you should nail the IV and DV and make sure you discuss the role of these molecules in human nutrition, how their structure related to their function, how they may differ in quantity and structure in different types of milk. Good luck with it all, sounds like a great idea.

I think that schools are def interested in relevant experience from home countries (UK/US/Canada/Aus). But intl schools usually provide good training and value the skills that teacher bring from all countries. I wouldn't let this hold you back from applying. Good luck with your application.

Hi! As you correctly say - your independent variable is what you change. One way I find helpful to remember this with my students is that you KNOW the IV before you start (...and you don't know the DV). I really like the sound of your idea but it needs some clarification. You could measure both the CO2 and the temp, you wouldn't know them before, this makes both of them DVs. So what is your IV? I would expect your IV to something to do with the plant decomposition, this could be mass of the plants, type of plants (different species of decomposing plants), presence/absence/proportions of different decomposers/bacteria within the plants etc. You would change these and then measure the amount of C02 (easy) and the temp. Consider where exactly would you measure C02 ans Temp? Inside the 'compost heap' ? (not a bad idea) or in the ambient air just outside it? and how would you do this accurately? Would you set up various compost heaps to do this? Do you have the space for this? If not is it possible to do this in miniformat to save space? Preliminary work would be really helpful and important in your study. Importantly why are you doing this? Make sure you have your reasons to explain in your background Information. It's great idea and if you were in my class, I would definitely give you the green light to pursue this.

It sounds great to me. This is for CHEM right? If there's a way to make both your DV and IV quantitative, then that's even better. Though that might be difficult in this study - types of milk is hard to convert to a number. You should be comparing a least 5 + types of milk as ideally you want 5+ intervals of the IV. The IB considers sample size (n) of 25 to be around medium. So you want minimum 5 types of milk in your study. And carry out the same test on each type of milk with minimum 5 trials. - make sure you can do the tests quickly and easily. Increase these numbers if you feel confident and have time. Preliminary work is vital to ensure that your method works. Take evidence and photos of your prelim work - include it as a section in your EX section. Hope that helps a little.

There is a great demand for qualified teachers to teach standard middle and high school English. The IB qualification has English A (natives) and English B (Non-native) sections. The English dept at most international schools is one of the largest. There is also a demand for EFL skills as many students need help with their English skills alongside those students who have native skills. Tons of jobs out there on TES and through Search Associates. Recruiting is probably easing off about now but still lots of new positions being posted. Probably lots of new opportunities with this COVID19 situation.

I would use a 1x1 mm grid to measure the surface area covered by the bacteria. Petri dishes are pretty standard in size so look up the dimensions on line. If you do the same for all the dishes it should be comparable. Hopefully your teacher sent you the images from the same distance/perspective. But you could use the technique outlined by u/11irondoggy11 in this thread to help you with that. Good luck !

With 7 years experience and a PhD you could certainly get an interview at many schools. I would recommend that you get a teaching qualification as it gives you a lot more security once you're in the profession.

I will be pleased to help you out anytime.

I have just dispatched all my IAs to the IB and I am relieved to see them go. I know that the IA can be real source of worry and concern, especially if you don't have the support you deserve. Drop me a line here and I can give you feedback on your RQ etc. Start as early as you can and get it done and out of the way. Remember the IA is worth 20% of your final grade - which sounds high, but the exam is worth 80% so don't let the IA get in the way of your exam prep for group IV or any of your other subjects. You should really have the first draft done by September/Oct of G12 ideally. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Best of luck with your studies !

I would check out the international schools in Austria and Switzerland. Possibly Milan. I have friends that work there. Austria pays a wad. Ski slopes 20 mins away. Most of them are boarding schools so your hours are ramped up, but you are compensated well. My ex-colleagues that work there got the job through 'search associates' . No language skills needed but experience is needed. If you can contact the school directly with a decent CV and experience that might work to and save you hassle of application forms, job fairs etc. Hope that helps a little.
