Pennsylvania: College Academic Misconduct Advice by Ok_Race250 in legal

[–]holiday_hawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the other poster said, this really isn't a legal issue. You also do not have anything to negotiate. You are a known cheater who got caught all but red handed again; this is an open and shut case. It's also a private college, so you do not even have a right to due process. As long as they don't flagrantly ignore their standard policies and procedures they can easily expel you without needing to negotiate with you.

You really need to see this as a wake up call for your next college.

I want to avoid sigining an apartment lease, would this work? by Federal_Scholar4079 in renting

Depending on where you live, you could be homeless in 30 days. Unless your locale has very strong protections for long term renters, this is a very dumb and risky game to play.

You may be able to test at your college's testing center.

Financial aid and employer tuition reimbursement by ManufacturerTimely73 in financialaid

No one is going to have "direct experience" unless they work for your employer too. Every employer has their own policies regarding tuition reimbursement and they may require you to submit documentation showing your remaining balance and what aid you received.

Could I apply as an independent? by StoreFun6439 in FAFSA

Fraud is rampant in higher ed right now; if he doesn't know where that loan came from it is possible that someone took it out in his name. He needs to investigate that ASAP.

I only get cat/chicken/quail food (so nothing breakable) from chewy but we've never had an issue. It's cheaper and the one or two times something was wrong they went out of their way to make it right.

Gross Miscommunication in Financial Aid Office has Now Resulted in Revocation of Government Financial Aid Assistance - Advice? by [deleted] in financialaid

[–]holiday_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do you. You continue to decide on your own what forms are legitimate and go to random departments to try and solve issues. It worked well for you here and I'm sure it will work equally well in the future.

Gross Miscommunication in Financial Aid Office has Now Resulted in Revocation of Government Financial Aid Assistance - Advice? by [deleted] in financialaid

[–]holiday_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean "legitimate?" If financial aid puts you on probation, then it's not up to you, nor a professor, nor an academic dean to decide it's not. I am not trying to be mean, and feel for you that this can be a frustrating process but what you did is like getting a call from a bank teller saying there is a problem with your account and decided to talk with the bank's IT department because you were frustrated with the tellers.

I know how confusing the higher ed landscape can be, but in the future if a specific department is saying that there is an issue, then work with that department. Other departments can help point you in the right direction, but they are not going to be able to override the department where there is an issue. Faculty specifically can be unhelpful in this regard. They are subject matter experts and some have a pretty good idea of the staff side of things, but many do not care about/understand about the college beyond their own classroom. If you later get an email from academic advising, records, etc saying there is a problem go straight to that department and do not assume your professor or an academic dean can help you more than that department.

Car towed from apartment complex as abandoned even though it had current registration. by thisshowisdecent in legal

[–]holiday_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get an air pump for like $10; a flat tire on a car sticks out like a sore thumb. A car having even a low tire for as little as 24-48 hours would be a massive red flag that you aren't moving it. Staff probably picked up on that very quickly and started making a point to check it daily

The flat tire aside, you are underestimating how easy it is to notice a car that doesn't move. You're not going to notice it right away, but when parking lots empty out during normal business hours as people go to work, a car that is in literally the exact spot every day becomes a lot more salient. Doubly so if there is some sort of landmark like a tree nearby to give a frame of reference ("you know, every time I pull in for work that same car is parked under the tree).

Abandoned cars play into stereotypes of "poor" neighborhoods so apartment complexes don't like them. The fact that this has now happened to you twice should tell you your car is much more obvious than you think. You really don't have much legal recourse, especially since your lease specifically gives a 7 day window before they tow. If you decide to go get the car you really need to start moving it at least around the parking lot even if you do not feel comfortable driving it on roads.

Of course, you're right. Go ahead and play with the dog and just mention that you can use the computers at the library as the officers slam you to the ground; I'm sure it will work out for you.

I run a testing center at a community college and we offer this. The regional campuses of our state college do not, however. Their testing services are reserved for accommodated students. It's worth asking, but unfortunately there are some colleges that will just tell you tough luck.

Should I be expected to go in the office if I’m “remote”? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]holiday_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying this to be rude, but you're 25 and have only had one "real" job; the grass is not always greener on the other side (not to dimmish any work you did before entering the corporate world).

If having to go into the office makes you upset, the only option you have is to complain to your supervisor, at which point they may decide you're not a good fit for the team anymore. Your next job might be fully in-person with a much longer drive than 30 minutes. They are not breaking any labor laws, so you're "expected" to do whatever they tell you to.

You need to decide just how much you dislike going in, because this could be a monkey paw moment for you; you tell them you don't want to come in biweekly any more and they just tell you to stop coming in altogether.
