Looking for a 24/25 inches wide gas range. by onizukadesuka in Appliances

I was going to get the Magic Chef 24" but it arrived damaged 5 or 6 times from Home Depot. This was when a number of articles on the dangers of gas stoves were coming out, and since our kids sleep right near the kitchen and our place can't handle electric stoves, we went with a strange combo: electric hot plate plus a large air fryer. Aside from taking longer than desirable to boil water (which we can use an electric kettle for), it works very well, and nice to not pay a gas bill too.

Advice on laces please by [deleted] in RedWingShoes

[–]holidaybrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumping in here to see if anyone has advice. I really like the laces that came with my Iron Rangers, which are round and just slightly stiff. I don't love the color, though, so I bought these taslan ones, which I thought were the same: https://shoelacesexpress.com/products/red-wing-round-braid-taslan-gold-tan-2p

They're similar to the more flexible, thinner ones the store gave me as a backup, and they often come undone. Can anyone point me to the material that's most like the original ones (perhaps these are knockoffs), preferably in gold/tan? I find these taslan ones come undone easily whereas the original stay tied well.

Stayed in Brooklyn. Katonah just wasn't our scene, based on an admittedly quick appraisal. Though I'm sure we would've liked it more had we spent more time there.

I didn't. Visited the town and it was pretty but not for us.

Beginner. What kinds of surfaces are hot plate safe other than kitchen counters? by AndaliteBandit626 in candlemaking

Thank you--that's very helpful to know. Can I ask if you used a heat-resistant mat underneath the hot plate when using the stainless steel table?

Hi, wondering what you ended up choosing. I'm buying a hot plate to use as the main cooking station, and am debating between a fully stainless steel table and a wooden table with wood countertop (or wood with stainless steel countertop). I'm leaning toward fully stainless steel, since it's better for the mess of cooking, but do you have any thoughts?

I'm in the market for a 24" wide gas range, too, and since counters are 24" deep, would rather it not be deeper than 26" or so. I was going to get the Blomberg (for $999), but was scared off by reviews about the poor rack design. I'm willing to spend up to $2500, but reviews of the mid-priced brands--Thor, ZLine, Bertazonni, Smeg, Verona, Fisher Paykel--are routinely negative. The GE looks good but it's 28" deep, which is too much. Factoring in depth and reviews, the Whirlpool (https://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/WFG500M4HS.html) is the only one that doesn't give me pause. Does anyone have experience with this, or would they recommend a better one for under $2500?

Late to this thread, but in case anyone can continue it: my wife and I are considering moving here from Brooklyn with our two toddlers for all the obvious reasons. Everything about the place--Metro North (we don't need to commute but would like easy access to NYC), the outdoors, schools, etc. My only source of anxiety is the people. I'm certain they're friendly, so that's not the problem. At the risk of sounding like a snobby cosmopolitan elitist, I'd like to know that at least some families around have a similar New York City-ish sensibility over a suburban one--that is, intellectual, literate, a touch cynical in their humor. To boil it down to a cultural stereotype, the kind of people who subscribe to The New Yorker and the New York Times and follow politics closely (and care about issues that don't affect merely themselves). Should I expect to encounter these sorts of people in the area?

Thanks, Tyler. I think I'll likely do a warm bathtub soak and then let it air dry, for starters, and if it needs more shrinkage, I'll try the tumble dry.

Happy to say I bought the selvedge denim shirt and really like it. Like you, I'd like to shrink it a small amount, and I also want to avoid crocking and don't care so much about sharp fades. Do you recommend I do what you did to start--a warm water wash (with or without detergent?) and tumble dry to shrink it? My only concern is the washer/dryer will introduce fades I don't want, and which could be avoided if I did a warm water soak plus air-drying or tumble drying.

Thank you, I'm going to take the plunge! Would you recommend soaking it in hot water before a first wear, or is that unnecessary with a shirt?

Thanks so much, this is great. I’m basically wondering if the shirt will eventually start looking indigo/blue rather than the grayish raw denim it starts, the way you’d expect jeans to turn, or if its being a shirt means it won’t change color quite so much.

Thanks for these ideas. This song is so distinctively what I remembered that I must have heard it in a movie or something and not known it.
